AISA FOOTBALL: Hooper earns first win; Lowndes pounds Coosa Valley

Hooper Academy 34, Abbeville Christian Academy 14
ABBEVILLE -- Christ McCoy rushed for three touchdowns to lead the Colts to a AA Region 1 win over Abbeville Christian Academy on Friday night.
Friday’s win marked the first time Hooper won a region opener since 2017. The Colts snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to last year.
McCoy rushed for 95 yards and three touchdowns and also had 36 receiving yards. Quarterback Ron McGinty had 29 rushing yards and scored on a two-point conversion. Lucas Spellman had 58 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Luke Moseley added 33 receiving yards.
Defensively, Judah Perry led the Colts with 11 tackles, followed by Ellis Fleming with 10. D.J. Williams added a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Hooper (1-1, 1-0 in region play) travels to Cecil to play Macon East Academy in a region game next Friday. Abbeville Christian (0-3, 0-1) remains home to play Edgewood in a region game.
Lowndes Academy 51, Coosa Valley Academy 0
HARPERSVILLE -- Lowndes Academy scored five touchdowns in the first quarter and held Coosa Valley without a first down in the game on the way to a 51-0 region victory on Friday.
Lowndes got a pair of touchdowns from Braydn Stokes and one each from Cooper Dansby, Kasen Dismukes and Jon Ross Hollingshead in the first quarter for a 35-0 lead.
Dismukes added a 60-yard kickoff return for a touchdown after Pierson Hill had recorded a safety and Crawford Dansby scored on a 20-yard run to give the Rebels a 51-0 lead at the half. Watters Box was a perfect 7-of-7 on extra points.
Stokes led the Rebels with 81 yards on five carries.
Dismukes led Lowndes with seven tackles, followed by Cooper Dansby with six.
Lowndes (2-0) travels to Southern for a region game next Friday, while Coosa Valley (0-2) remains home to play Lakeside in a region game on Friday.
Wilcox Academy 38, Macon East Academy 6
CECIL -- Sam Wallace rushed for 25 yards on six carries and scored the Knights’ only touchdown in a 38-6 loss to Wilcox Academy on Saturday night.
The game was postponed from Friday because of the field conditions.
Barrett Spaeth led the Macon East defense with seven tackles.
Macon East (0-3) lost its first three games of the season for the first time since starting 0-4 in 2015. The Knights play host to Hooper in their region opener next Friday.
Wilcox (2-1) returns home to face Sparta in the region opener on Friday.
Chambers Academy 36, Edgewood Academy 6
ELMORE -- Ethan Evans completed 8 of 16 passes for 135 yards, including a touchdown pass to Brock Whitt, but the Wildcats dropped their AA Region 1 opener to Chambers Academy on Friday night.
Brock Whitt had three receptions for 48 yards, including the 12-yard touchdown catch from Evans, while Brody Whitt had two catches for 26 yards and Gabe LeMaster had one reception for 33 yards.
Defensively, Parker Shaw led Edgewood with 11 tackles. Jackson Hudson had six tackles, Zayne Talley had five tackles and Matt Cox had four tackles and a fumble recovery.
Chambers (2-1, 1-0 in region play) will travel to Luverne to play Crenshaw Christian next week, while Edgewood (0-3, 0-1) will travel to Abbeville Christian for a region game.
