FCA baseball tourney opens today with 22 teams scheduled to compete
By GRAHAM DUNN
The 31st edition of the FCA Jason Armstrong Memorial Tournament is scheduled to open today (March 4) with two goals in mind.
First, provide baseball fans a chance to see some of the top high school teams in the state.
Second, spread the word of God while honoring a fallen student athlete.
“Over 1,000 (students) have gone to FCA camp thanks to this tournament,” stated FCA director John Gibbons. “The money raised from this week will help with several young people who may not have come to know the Lord.”
The tournament will be held at both Riverwalk Stadium and Paterson Field. Many of the regulars are back including the unofficial host school in Trinity Presbyterian. And there are a couple of newcomers to the field in Citronelle and “JAG” and “Percy Julian,” formerly Jeff Davis and R.E. Lee, respectively.
All three counties in the River Region will be represented.
Play opens at Riverwalk Stadium with three games. And two more at Paterson The tournament continues through Saturday.
Tournament passes and single game tickets are available at the gate at both Paterson and Riverwalk this week. There is also availability for sponsor for the tournament. Visit the FCA website (www.alabamafca.org) for information.
