St. James wins five titles, but falls one point short
MOBILE -- St. James’ players won four individual state championships in singles and another in doubles, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Lauderdale County in the 1A-3A state tennis championship at the Mobile Tennis Center on Friday.
Lauderdale County finished with 42 points, followed by the Trojans with 41 and Indian Springs with 23. Lauderdale County placed three players in the finals and all three doubles teams, winning at No. 2 singles and at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles to edge the Trojans by a point.
For St. James, Karly Bailey defeated Lauderdale County’s Mallory McConnell, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, David Wilford defeated Indian Springs’ Tessa Trembley-Cox, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4, Helen Johnston defeated Shoals Christian’s Lyla Wells, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and Addison Seale defeated Lauderdale County’s Ivey Tinker, 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 6.
Reilly Taylor and Seale fell to Lauderdale County’s McConnell and Lizzie Tanner, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 2 doubles finals, while Raleigh Court and Johnston defeated Lauderdale County’s Paige Davis and Tinker at No. 3 doubles.

James Treadwell wins No. 2 singles championship for Wildcats
MOBILE -- James Treadwell won the state championship at the No. 2 singles position, defeating Mountain Brook’s Thomas Austin in the final for his second state championship at the Class 6A state tennis tournament on Friday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Trinity boys capped off two days of competition with a fifth-place finish out of 16 teams.
Section champions Samuel and James Treadwell were runners-up at the No. 1 doubles position, losing a close 6-2, 6-4 finals match to overall tournament champion Mountain Brook, marking the brother’s third consecutive second-place finish at No. 1 doubles at the 6A tournament.
Samuel and James finishing their career with 102 doubles wins together. Samuel also has 102 career wins in singles, while James has 106.
In the No. 1 singles, Samuel Treadwell was a semifinalist. Sawyer Speagle had a win over Hillcrest at No. 6 singles and teamed up with Charlie Franklin for a win over Fort Payne in No. 3 doubles.
SOFTBALL
Prattville 5, Enterprise 3
DOTHAN -- Mady Cate Lindsey pitched a complete game for the Lions, going seven innings while giving up three runs and striking out two in Prattville’s area tournament opener over the Wildcats on Friday.
Zarria Bozeman went 3 for 4 with a double and a home run, driving in a run, Kaylee Robles went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, Maddie Putteet went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Brooklyn Johnson and Jodie Gentry each added a hit to lead Prattville into the second round.
The Lions will face the Dothan-JAG winner in the second round of the double-elimination tournament on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Prattville Christian 12, Julian 0
PRATTVILLE -- Avery Rogers led the Lady Panthers with three goals scored and three assists as she ends the regular season with a school record of 30 goals this season as well as a school record of 77 career goals.
Anabelle Weedon scored two goals, while Addison Sutton and Bella Carothers each had two assists. Ella Pegg, Mary Virginia Penton and Savannah Lamar each had a goal and an assist. Elizabeth Rossi, Aiden Williams, Kendall Jordan and Morgan Lisle each scored a goal.
PCA ends the regular season with a record of 8-10 and will travel to Montgomery to play Saint James on Tuesday in the first round of the 1A-3A state soccer playoffs at Carlisle Field at 5 p.m.
Montgomery Academy 12, Stanhope Elmore 0
Montgomery Academy came out firing, scoring five goals in 15 minutes on the way to a 12-0 win over the Mustangs in the opening round of the 6A state soccer playoffs at McLemore Field on Thursday.
Goalkeeper Arden Horne and the whole backline made it six clean sheets for the season.
Sophia Cho scored five goals and Kerstin Daniel added four as the Eagles advanced to the second round of the state playoffs for the 16th time in 17 years (there were no playoffs in 2020). Ella Harding Pemberton, Tara Samant and Caroline Waller each added a goal.
Montgomery Academy (11-3-1) remains home to play area rival Pike Road in the second round of the 6A state soccer playoffs on Tuesday at McLemore Field at 5 p.m.

Prattville Christian 11, Julian 1
PRATTVILLE -- Cade Segars led the Panthers with 10 goals scored as he ends the regular season with a PCA single-season record of 53 goals.
Brady Roberson assisted on four of the goals, while Liam Taylor had a goal and three assists.
PCA ends the regular season with a record of 8-10-1 and will travel to Montgomery to play Saint James on Tuesday in the first round of the 1A-3A state soccer playoffs at Carlisle Field at 7 p.m.
BOYS GOLF
Montgomery Academy 155, St. James 171
The Montgomery Academy boys golf team won a nine-hole match with St. James at Wynlakes on Thursday, beating the Trojans by 16 strokes.
The low medalist for Montgomery Academy was Joe Drumwright with a 38. Connor Evans, Mac Freeman and William Hall all shot a 39, Thomas Floyd had a 40 and John Carson Bullard shot a 50 in the tournament.
TRACK AND FIELD
MA’s Johnson places first in shot put
LINCOLN -- Montgomery Academy had a great showing on the first day of track sectionals, led by the top performance in the state with a shot put of 42 feet, three inches by Isabella Johnson. The Eagles wrap up competition on Saturday.
For the girls, in addition to Johnson’s performance, Megan Link was first in pole vault with a vault of 8-0 while teammate Emily Ingram was sixth. Elle Ingram placed second in the 1600-meter run and Sarah Elizabeth Casey was sixth in triple jump.
For the boys, Knox Wingate was first in pole vault with a vault of 12-6 and sixth in javelin, finishing one spot ahead of teammate Mac Benefield in pole vault and two behind David Whisenhunt in javelin. John Bennett Lester was eighth in the javelin.
Skyler Stovall was third in long jump, Matt Cone was fifth in 1600-meter, Frank Williford was sixth in 1600-meter, Eli Jernigan was sixth in 400-meter, Bobby Bradford was eighth in 400-meter and the 4x800-meter relay team of Jackson McIntyre, Ian Farley, Trey White and Price McLemore placed sixth.
