NOTES: Cole named Park Crossing coach; Lee's Barnes, Miles make college choices

Former Alabama State coach L.C. Cole has been tabbed as the new head football coach and athletic director at Park Crossing High School, which was announced on Friday.

He replaces C.J. Harris, who spent just one year as the head football coach at Park Crossing and was recently hired to lead the new USA Academy program.

Cole will make his fourth coaching stop in the River Region after spending the last two years at Loachapoka.  He also coached the prep ranks at Sidney Lanier, Fairfield and Wilcox Central.

In three seasons at Alabama State, Cole led the Hornets to 20 wins but was forced out in 2003 due to NCAA allegations. He also spent four years at Tennessee State, leading the program to consecutive playoff appearances in 1998-99.

Lee defensive lineman commits to Alabama

Robert E. Lee defensive lineman Anquin Barnes announced through social media on Friday that he plans to sign with the University of Alabama.

In his announcement, he stated, “this was a school I had my eyes on since I knew about football. Now being able to join the family is the biggest blessing.”

Barnes (6-6/300) had 65 tackles last year with four sacks.

Miles signs with Troy

After leading Robert E. Lee to its first-ever state championship in basketball, Duke Miles has chosen his next stop.

Miles signed with Troy on Thursday joining three other signees for the Trojans.

“Duke can do it all,” Troy coach Scott Cross said. “His defensive ability and competitiveness are two things that make him so special.”

Miles was a finalist for Class 7A Player of the Year after leading the Generals to a 33-1 record and the state title. He averaged 17 points  and nearly five assists per game for Coach Bryant Johnson.
