PREP HOOP RECAP: Trinity girls handle Handley; Catholic tops Wetumpka

Trinity 64, Handley 45
Maddie Smith scored 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out seven assists and came up with five steals as the Wildcats cruised past Handley 64-45 at Captain Jack Court on Thursday.
Emma Kate Smith added 21 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Mary Alice Sasser scored eight points. Addison Cherry grabbed eight rebounds.
Catholic 48, Wetumpka 32
Julienne Pharrams had 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Knights to a 48-32 win over the 6A Indians on Thursday in the Catholic gym.
Catholic led 11-4 after the first quarter and 24-11 at the half, then extended its lead to 41-19 at the end of the third quarter.
Heaven Bailey added 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals for Catholic, followed by Hannah Smith with nine points and 13 rebounds.
Wetumpka was led by Janae McCall with 10 points.
Catholic (10-3) will play host to Alabama Christian on Jan. 4.
Pike Road 35, Decatur Heritage 29
HUNTSVILLE -- Jazzlyn Johnson had 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Patriots to a hard-fought win over Decatur Heritage in the final round of the Randolph Tournament on Thursday.
Kelsey Williams added nine points, while Gracie Branham had 14 rebounds and six steals.
Pike Road (11-6) returns to action on Monday at Montgomery Academy.

Pike Road 46, Randolph 15
HUNTSVILLE -- Jazz Johnson had 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals to help the Patriots bounce back with a second-round romp over Randolph in the Randolph Holiday Tournament on Wednesday.
KJ Fencher added 12 points, followed by Gracie Branham with 11 points and six steals.
Catholic 58, Greenville 53
Heaven Bailey scored 15 points, including a 11-of-13 performance at the free throw line, to lead the Knights past Greenville in the Catholic gym on Wednesday.
Catholic had a 10-point lead (26-16) at the half and still had a fairly comfortable margin at 46-33 entering the fourth quarter, but the Tigers closed the gap to three points in the fourth quarter before Bailey hit 5 of 6 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
Julienne Pharrams scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds and Hannah Smith had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Allyse Rudolph added nine points, including a pair of 3 pointers for the Knights (9-3), who will host Wetumpka on Thursday at 1 p.m.
Greenville was led by Sunita Oliver with 22 and Jy Beach added 17.
Trinity 70, BTW Magnet 5
Kaylee Peevy had 17 points to lead Trinity to an easy 70-5 win over BTW Magnet on Wednesday afternoon.
Emma Moody added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.
Lakeside School 46, Edgewood Academy 43
EUFAULA -- Lindsey Brown hit the 1,000-point mark in her career by the Wildcats couldn’t hold the lead and suffered a 46-43 loss to the Chiefs in the championship game of the Lakeside Tournament on Wednesday.
Brown, a sophomore, had nine points in the second quarter and 10 more in the third, crossing the 1,000-point plateau in the third quarter. She finished with 23 points, scoring half of that on four 3 pointers.
Emma Weldon had 13 points, including four 3 pointers as well.
Lakeside led 9-3 at the end of the first quarter, but Edgewood rallied from a three-point halftime deficit with 20 third-quarter points to take a 37-34 lead into the final period.
Eliza Erikser led Lakeside with 14 points, including four in the fourth quarter as the Chiefs rallied past the Wildcats. Chloe Helms added 10 points, including five in the fourth quarter.
Edgewood returns home to play host to Coosa Valley on Monday and Lee-Scott on Tuesday.
BOYS
Evangel Christian 43, Chambers Academy 42
LAFAYETTE -- Nii Addy scored the game winning basket with 4.1 seconds left on the clock to give Evangel Christian the win in the championship game of the Chambers Christmas Tournament.
Addy finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Jeremiah Williams led all scorers with 18 points on four 3 pointers, while dishing out three assists and coming up with two steals.
The Lions (6-7) will host Abbeville Christian in their first area game on Jan. 4.
