PREP HOOPS: Macon East tops Sparta; Autauga Academy rolls

BOYS

Macon East Academy 62, Sparta Academy 44 

EVERGREEN -- Maurice Poole had 15 points and Tyler Daniels added 12 as the Knights defeated the Warriors in a rematch of last year’s state quarterfinal matchup. 

Poole added five assists, seven steals and a pair of rebounds in the win, while Daniels had 14 rebounds, a pair of blocked shots and was perfect from the free-throw line (4 of 4). Jacob Wilson added eight points, five assists, four steals and six rebounds and Keegan Roney had eight points, six steals and four rebounds. Garrison Miller added seven points, followed by Gunner Justice with five points and three rebounds, Brandon Wilkins with four points, Deonte Powell with two points and five rebounds and Tanner Surles with one point.

Bryson Pate led Sparta with 18 points, scoring 12 in the first quarter and 16 in the first half before the Knights’ defense held him in check in the second half. Sam Layton added nine points for the Warriors.

 

Autauga Academy 86, Bessemer Academy 47

PRATTVILLE -- Robert Rose scored 33 points to lead the unbeaten Generals past Bessemer Academy 86-47 on Monday night in the Autauga gym. 

Pharrell Banks added 22 points, followed by Josh Palmer with 12, AJ Perry with seven and Deuhn Carroll with six for Autauga (3-0).

Lee-Scott Academy 43, Edgewood Academy 32

AUBURN -- The Warriors scored 15 points in both the second and third quarters to erase an early deficit and defeat Edgewood on Monday night in the Lee-Scott gym.

Austin Champion had nine points for the Wildcats, followed by Gabe LeMaster with eight points, four rebounds and a pair of assists. Cooper Hall had a team-high five rebounds along with three points.

Joseph Horne led Lee-Scott with 12 points, followed by Alex Cash with nine.

Edgewood (1-3) returns home to face Macon East Academy on Tuesday night.

 

GIRLS

Sparta Academy 56, Macon East Academy 26

EVERGREEN -- The Knights struggled to hit from the field and were just 13 of 31 from the free-throw line in losing at Sparta Academy on Monday.  

Maddie Ross led Macon East with 13 points, including six from the free-throw line, while junior Sydney Phelps had seven points and 17 rebounds. Julia Mathis, Molly Ross and Jamya Powell all had two points each.

The Knights travel to Edgewood Academy on Tuesday. 

 

Lee-Scott Academy 48, Edgewood Academy 22

AUBURN -- The Wildcats struggled to find any offensive rhythm against the Warriors’ defense, falling behind 16-2 in the first eight minutes and 30-6 at the half on Monday in the Lee-Scott gym.

Emma Frances Zellner led Lee-Scott with 18 points, scoring 10 in the first quarter and 14 in the first half. Mary Kathryn Harris added 12 for Lee-Scott.

Molly Snow, Kennedy Mensch, Jaylyn Strength and Madison Martin all had four points each to lead Edgewood (1-3), which returns home to play Macon East Academy on Tuesday.
