PREP RECAP: St. James, Pike Road fall in football semis; Macon East beats Lowndes in hoops

FOOTBALL
CLASS 6A: Saraland 46, Pike Road 7
SARALAND - The Patriots were held to a season low 156 yards in total offense as the Spartans earned a berth in the Class 6A championship game on Friday.
Spartans quarterback KJ Lacey threw for four touchdowns as he led his team on seven different drives for scores.
Adrian Thornton had the lone touchdown for the Patriots, who finish the season 11-3.
Saraland (14-0) will face Clay-Chalkville in the championship game next Friday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
CLASS 3A: Mobile Christian 34, St. James 30
MOBILE - The Trojans forced four turnovers and had a chance on their last possession to earn a second-straight trip to the Super 7, but came up short in the Class 3A semifinals against the Leopards on Friday at Harrison Field.
After KJ Jackson led St. James on an 80-yard drive for a score with less than three minutes remaining, the Trojans were successful on an onsides kick. Jackson drove the Trojans to the Mobile Christian 17-yard line. But on fourth down from the 24-yard line, Jackson’s pass into the end zone was swatted away in the end zone.
jackson finished with 190 yards rushing and a score plus 260 yards and three touchdowns in the air. St. James finished with over 200 yards more on offense than Mobile Christian.
The Trojans finish 11-3 for the season while Mobile Christian (14-0) will face Madison Academy on Thursday in the 3A title game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Macon East Academy 37, Lowndes Academy 36
LOWNDESBORO -- Jacob Simpson hit the game-winning free throws with two seconds left to lift the Knights to a 37-36 win over the Rebels in the Lowndes Academy gym on Friday night.
Jacob Johnson led Macon East with 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals and Keagan Roney added eight points and 10 rebounds.
Clayton Hussey led the Rebels with 15 points, three rebounds, five steals, a pair of blocked shots and an assist, followed by Zach Azar with eight points, three rebounds and a blocked shot, Pierson Hill with five points, a pair of rebounds and a blocked shot, Andrew Myers with three points, three rebounds and two assists, John Ross Hollingshead with three points, three rebounds and two assists and David Calloway with two points.
Macon East (2-1) will travel to Southern Prep on Tuesday for an area game, while Lowndes (1-1) will travel to Hope Hull to play Hooper on Tuesday.
Brew Tech 67, LAMP 55
LAMP lost to the Rams in a battle of magnet schools in the Brew Tech gym on Friday night.
Smith Carter led the Golden Tigers with 18 points, followed by Matthias Gourdine with 14 and Ezekial Griffin with 14 points and nine rebounds.
LAMP (5-3) will travel to Alabama Christian Academy on Tuesday.
Montgomery Academy 56, Chilton County 55
CLANTON -- Chilton County stormed out to a 10-0 lead early on their way to a 21-point first quarter, but Montgomery Academy chipped away at the lead and eventually edged the Class 6A Tigers 56-55 in the Chilton County gym on Friday night.
Skyler Stovall led the Eagles with 15 points, nine rebounds, five steals and two assists, followed by DJ Vinson with 14 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocked shots. Cole Caddell added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Brewer Welch had eight points, two rebounds, six assists and four steals. Seth Edwards managed five points, but added seven rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocked shots. Jarrett Friendly also scored two points, grabbed eight rebounds and had an assist and two steals.
Montgomery Academy (7-1) returns home to play host to Tallassee on Monday.
Alabama Christian 48, Prattville Christian 47
Cade Segars led the Panthers with 25 points and six rebounds and took four charges but PCA fell 48-47 to Alabama Christian on Thursday in the ACA gym.
Collier Connell added 11 points and four rebounds for PCA, while Brady Roberson had five points and five rebounds and PJ Evans added four points, five rebounds and five assists. Lathan Rybarczyk grabbed six rebounds.
PCA (2-5) returns home to face Trinity on Friday.
Wade Mora led the junior varsity Panthers with 13 points and 15 rebounds in a 34-32 win over the Eagles. Ethan Girlie added eight points and six steals, followed by Easton Miller with seven points and five rebounds and Sam Wheeler with three points. Tyson Houston grabbed four rebounds for PCA (2-2).
Montgomery Academy 55, Prattville Christian 41
PRATTVILLE -- The Eagles outscored PCA 33-17 in the second half to break open a tie game at halftime in the Prattville Christian gym on Tuesday night.
DJ Vinson and Seth Edwards led a balanced MA scoring attack with 12 points each. Vinson also had 14 rebounds, a steal and a block while Edwards added eight rebounds, three assists and a steal. Skyler Stovall finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals while Cole Caddell added eight points and five rebounds. Brewer Welch chipped in seven points, 10 assists, four rebounds and five steals and Jarrett Friendly had five points, six rebounds and a pair of steals.
PJ Evans led the Panthers with 15 points, five rebounds and four steals. Collier Connell added 15 points and five rebounds, followed by Cade Segars with seven points and Lathan Rybarczyk with four points and six rebounds. Brady Roberson grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists.
Trinity 70, Holtville 51
HOLTVILLE -- The Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 18-10 in the third quarter to break open a tight game on the way to a 70-51 win in the Holtville gym on Tuesday night.
Cayson Keller led the Wildcats with 25 points, scoring 16 in the first half and adding seven more in the third quarter to help Trinity pull away from a 31-30 halftime lead.
Cooper Bernier added 12 points, followed by Mac Stewart with 11.
Caleb Sutton led the Bulldogs with 16 points, all in the first half. Kelton Shufford added 10.
Thompson 78, Prattville 31
ALABASTER -- Prattville’s poor shooting put the Lions in a huge hole in the first half of Tuesday’s game as Thompson cruised to a 78-31 win.
The Lions trailed 19-4 at the end of the first quarter and while the shooting was a little better in the second quarter, Prattville still trailed 36-15 at the half.
Donavan Brown had 11 points and four rebounds to lead the Lions, while Ty Bryant also chipped in 11 points. Xavier Dunn had five points to go along with his team-high seven rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Chilton County 41, Montgomery Academy 32
CLANTON -- Montgomery Academy made just one field goal in the second quarter, falling behind Chilton County and never recovering in a 41-32 loss to the Class 6A Tigers on Friday night.
Olivia Smith led the Eagles with 11 points and nine rebounds. Kaci Armistead added seven points and five steals.
Montgomery Academy (2-5) returns home to play Tallassee on Monday.
Pike Road 57, Marbury 31
MARBURY -- Tomeria Blythe had 20 points and eight rebounds to lead the Patriots to a 57-31 win over Marbury in the Marbury gym on Wednesday.
Audry Blaine added 10 points and six rebounds and Madison Triche had eight points for the Patriots.
Pike Road 66, Sidney Lanier 38
Audry Blaine and Tomeria Blythe each had 13 points to lead the Patriots to a 28-point win over the Poets at Walker-Joiner Gym on Tuesday night as every Pike Road player scored.
Lakeside School 45, Springwood School 38
LANETT -- The Lady Chiefs used a balanced attack to defeat previously unbeaten Springwood 45-38 in the Springwood gym on Tuesday night.
Addy Helms led the Chiefs with 12 points, followed by Chloe Helms with 11 points and Addysen Ericksen with 10 points. The Chiefs are now 4-3 on the season.
Evangel Christian 43, Edgewood Academy 37
Tylon Shine scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Lions to a 43-37 win over the Wildcats on Friday. Desi Stovall added a career high 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lions (2-2) will host Crenshaw Christian on Saturday.
Trinity 69, Catholic 62
Catholic’s Hannah Smith scored her 1,000th point on Tuesday at Trinity’s Captain Jack Court, but the Knights couldn’t overtake the Wildcats in a 69-62 loss.
Smith led the Knights with 24 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Kierstyn Green added 17 points, five rebounds and four assists and Heaven Bailey had 15 points, five rebounds and three assists.
For the Wildcats, Maddie Smith had 22 points, 10 assists and four rebounds but the bigger news was the return of Francie Morris, who has been sidelined all season after offseason surgery.
The junior, playing in limited action, had nine points, six rebounds and four assists.
Mya Moskowitz added 17 points for Trinity, followed by Ellie Causey with nine points and Lilly Smith with eight points, five assists, four steals and four rebounds.
Trinity returnss home to play Dale County on Monday. The Knights (1-4) will host St. James on Monday.
Prattville Christian 68, Montgomery Academy 25
PRATTVILLE -- Kayden Carr and Jenna McClendon each scored 23 points to lead the Panthers to an easy win over Montgomery Academy on Tuesday.
McClendon also had 11 rebounds for a double-double, while Carr had five rebounds and four assists. Avery Rogers added 10 points, six assists and five rebounds, followed by Ally Blankinchip with six points, five rebounds and four assists and LB NeSmith with six points. Baylee Rogers grabbed five rebunds and Leah Cate Wilson had four.
WRESTLING
PCA holds first home meet of the season
PRATTVILLE -- The Prattville Christian wrestling team opened up its home wrestling schedule by hosting Beulah, Houston Academy and Elmore County, defeating Beulah 42-36 and Houston Academy 60-18 before falling to Elmore County in a highly contested dual, 40-39, that the Panthers won on criteria.
Undefeated wrestlers on the night for the Panthers were Brysen Pugh, Matthew Post, Spencer Perkiins and David Tubbs-Hill.
The Prattville Christian Academy wrestling team opened their wrestling season at Brewbaker Tech, facing the Rams and Pike Road on Tuesday night.
In the opening match of the season, PCA took on Pike Road and lost 46-36. In the second dual of the night, PCA defeated the Rams 48-18.
Bryson Pugh, Elijah Harris, Brysen Bowman, David Tubbs-Hill and Luke Fleming all went undefeated on the night.
PCA (4-1) travels to W.S. Neal to take part in the Murder Creek Melee on Saturday.
