PREP RECAP: Trinity girls top Wetumpka

GIRLS 

Trinity 68, Wetumpka 37

WETUMPKA -- Mya Moskowitz scored 27 points and pulled down six rebounds to help the Wildcats bounce back from a Saturday loss with a 31-point win in the Wetumpka gym on Monday night.

Maddie Smith added 14 points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds, followed by Emma Kate Smith with 12 points, nine assists, four rebounds and three steals. Mary Alice Sasser had eight points, grabbed five rebounds and had three steals. Kaylee Peevy continued her quest to lead the nation in charges this year with two to go along with five rebounds and five points.  

Trinity (4-1) returns home to play LAMP on Thursday and BTW Magnet on Friday.

 

Edgewood Academy 52, Coosa Valley 16

ELMORE -- Lindsey Brown hit a pair of 3-pointers and Madison Martin scored eight of her 12 points in the first quarter to lead the Wildcats to a season opening rout of Coosa Valley on Monday night in the Edgewood gym.

Brown scored 13 of her game-high 17 points in the first half before joining Martin on the bench as the reserves played virtually all of the second half. Avery White added nine points, followed by Jaylyn Strength with six.

Emma Poole scored 14 of Coosa Valley’s 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Sydney Simmons had the other two points, hitting a field goal in the second quarter for Coosa Valley’s only basket in the first three quarters.

Edgewood (1-0) travels to Evergreen to play Sparta Academy on Thursday.

 

Ramsay 48. Trinity 43

BIRMINGHAM -- Emma Kate Smith led the Wildcats with 20 points but a strong effort by Ramsay handed Trinity its first loss of the season on Saturday.

Mya Moskowitz added 12 points, followed by Maddie Smith with eight points, eight assists, eight rebounds and three steals. 

 

BOYS 

Edgewood Academy 69, Coosa Valley 45

ELMORE -- Austin Champion scored eight of his team-high 12 points in the first quarter as the Wildcats jumped out to a 30-point lead at the half and coasted to a season opening victory over Coosa Valley on Monday in the Edgewood gym.

JB Collier also had 12 points for Edgewood, followed by Brody Whitt with 10. Cooper Hall had six of his seven points in the first quarter as the Wildcats grabbed a 19-6 lead in the first eight minutes. 

Brayden Wilson led Coosa Valley with 27 points, scoring 20 of his 27 points in the second half. Ray Albright added eight.

Edgewood (1-0) travels to Evergreen to play Sparta Academy on Thursday.
