PREP RECAP: Trinity soccer sets school record; Prattville softball wins area tourney

PRATTVILLE -- The Trinity boys’ and girls’ soccer teams both defeated Prattville Christian Academy on Thursday at Panther Stadium and advanced to the state soccer tournament in Huntsville.
The boys defeated the Panthers 4-1, while the girls won 5-1. It marks the first time in school history the boys and girls have advanced to the state tournament at the same time.
The Trinity girls, defending 1A-3A state champions, also reached the state tournament in 2001, 2007 and 2018. The Trinity boys reached the state tournament in 2002 and 2004.
In the girls’ game, Katherine Warren scored a pair of goals for the Wildcats, while Mary Alice Sasser, Ella Wiswall and Hannah Hert each scored a goal.
Ansley Claire Addison and Ella Hale each had an assist.
Avery Rogers scored the Panthers’ lone goal as PCA ended the season with a record of 7-7-1.
The Trinity girls will face the winner of Saturday’s match between Westminster-Oak Mountain and Bayside Academy in the semifinals on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Huntsville Soccer Complex.
In the boys’ game, Jackson Champion had a hat trick and Will Owen added a goal to help the Wildcats qualify for the state tournament for the first time in 18 years.
Grayden Flowers and Norris Pemberton had assists for Trinity. Goalkeeper Joe Handey had six saves.
Cade Segars scored the Panthers’ lone goal on an assist from Trey Barkley as PCA ended the season with a record of 7-8-1.

SOFTBALL
Prattville 6, Enterprise 4
ENTERPRISE -- Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth, the Prattville Lions roared to life with six runs on six hits to rally past Enterprise 6-4 to win the 7A Area 3 championship on Thursday.
Jayden Kendrick hit a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs, Jessica Cord added a two-run single and Kaylee Robles had an RBI single to lift the Lions to their first area tournament title since 2019.
The Lions had lost both regular-season meetings with the Wildcats, but defeated Enterprise twice in this week’s area tournament to win the area championship.
Jessica Cord went the distance, going seven innings and allowing just six hits and three earned runs while striking out six. Cord also went 4 for 4 at the plate, driving in a pair of runs.
Kendrick went 2 for 3, Kaytie Chandler went 2 for 3 and scored a run, Kylie Jarman went 2 for 4 and scored a run, Sarah Grace Jones went 1 for 4 and Robles went 1 for 4.
Prattville (24-17) will return to action in the opening round of the Central Regional at Lagoon Park Softball Complex against Daphne on Thursday at 9 a.m.
Enterprise also advanced to regional action and will face Fairhope on Thursday at 9 a.m. at Lagoon Park. The winners of the first-round games will meet at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, with the winner earning a berth in the state tournament in Oxford.
BASEBALL
Macon East 12, Wilcox Academy 2
CECIL -- Deonte Powell and the Macon East Academy Knights shook off Wednesday’s shocking loss to Wilcox Academy with a strong outing on Thursday to earn a berth in the AISA Class AA finals next week at Paterson Field.
Powell pitched to three batters and left without getting anyone out on Wednesday, part of a seventh-inning collapse by the Knights that forced a third game in the best-of-three series.
On Thursday, Powell was nothing short of spectacular, pitching a complete game and allowing just five hits and two runs while walking one and striking out four in a 12-2 win over the Wildcats that was halted in the fifth inning by the 10-run mercy rule.
Macon East (32-5) will play Patrician Academy in a best-of-three championship series on Tuesday at Paterson Field, beginning at 10 a.m. with a doubleheader. A third game, if necessary, will be played on Wednesday.
Powell kept the Knights close until his teammates could rally and tie the game at 1-1 in the third inning on an RBI double by Jabe Boroff that scored Luke Noffsinger.
Macon East broke open the game with a nine-run fourth inning, then added two in the fifth to end the game on the mercy rule.
Boroff went 4 for 4, including a double and a home run over the center field fence, driving in three runs in the process. Gunner Justice went 3 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs and Matthew Kitchens went 3 for 4 and drove in a run.
Camden Bell, Dalton Nickles, Noffsinger, Powell and Bryant Rascoll all finished with a hit each as part of a 15-hit attack. The Knights also got on base by drawing six walks and getting hit by a pitch twice.
