PREP RECAPS: LAMP, Trinity take wins in FCA Tourney; Macon east wins tourney

COMBINED REPORTS

Trinity 9, Thorsby 2
Trinity 10, Pike Road 1

Will Aaron knocked in two runs while Walton Cherry added a double and a run scored to lead the Wildcats to a win over Thorsby Saturday in the Jason Armstrong FCA Memorial Tournament at Riverwalk Stadium.

Tate Holley had a double and a single and knocked in two runs for Trinity. William Roberson had to hits and an RBI. Parker Hughes came in relief in the first inning to pick up the win, going three innings  and striking out four.

The Wildcats followed with a win over Pike Road at Riverwalk Stadium. Coleman Ellis went the distance (six innings) for the win. Grayson Ashe had a double, single and drove in two runs. Walter Cherry singled twice and drove in a run. Ellis also had two hits and two runs driven in.

Trinity (8-0) plays Andalusia on Tuesday.

 

LAMP 7, Wilson 6

The Golden Tigers held off Wilson for a win in the Jason Armstrong FCA Classic at Paterson Field on Saturday.

LAMP had a four-run fourth inning. Harrison Hall, Oliver Stephens, Lance Phung and Seth Hudson each drove in a run. Hall and Phung both finished with two hits.

Walker Morgan was the winning pitcher, going four innings without giving up a run, giving up just two hits and striking out six. Stephens picked up the save.

LAMP (5-3) faces Tallassee on Monday.

Prattville Christian 5, Billingsley 4

Jackson Reed knocked in the game-winning run to lift PCA to a win in the FCA Tournament on Saturday at Riverwalk Stadium.

James Chancey had the game-tying hit in the seventh. Tanner Byrd also drove in a run. Chancey and Stillman Davis each had two hits.

Jonathan Shields drove in three runs with three hits including a double for Billingsley.

SOFTBALL 

Macon East Academy 1-11, Bessemer Academy 2-0

PHENIX CITY – Macon East rebounded from a 2-1 loss to Bessemer Academy by beating the Rebels 11-0 in a second championship game to win the Glenwood Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Kylee Smith, Taylor McKinney and Devyn Debardelaben all had solo home runs in the first two innings to get the Knights rolling in the final game. 

Smith and Debardelaben homered in the first inning for a 2-0 lead and McKinney started the Knights on an eight-run second inning that finished off the Rebels. Breann Morrison, McKinney and Capps all drove in runs in the inning. Smith, McKinney and Capps each had two hits in the game. 

Capps earned the victory in the circle, allowing just one hit over the first three innings while striking out four and walking one.

Macon East returns home to host Glenwood on Monday before traveling to Dothan to play Northside Methodist on Tuesday. The Knights will host their annual softball tournament beginning Thursday.

Macon East 7, Glenwood School 2

PHENIX CITY – Emi Lott went 3 for 3 to help the Knights in a four-run fifth that propelled Macon East to a 7-2 win over the Gators in the Glenwood Tournament on Saturday.

Kylee Smith singled in a run in the fourth to break a 2-2 tie and Breann Morrison and Taylor McKinney added RBI doubles in the fifth to lead Macon East.

Caroline Capps picked up the win in the circle, allowing two runs and five hits while striking out five in five innings of work.

Hayden 8, Prattville Christian 3

WETUMPKA – Prattville Christian’s team went 3-3 in the Wetumpka Tournament on Friday and Saturday, fighting back through the elimination bracket to the semifinals before losing to defending 5A state champion Hayden 8-3 on Saturday.

The Panthers lost to Brew Tech 9-2 and Dadeville 4-2 before rebounding with wins over Stanhope Elmore (2-0), Alabama Christian (2-0) and Wetumpka (4-0) before losing to Hayden. 

Landyn McAnnally pitched in four of the six games and finished with a 3-1 record. In 17 innings she had 33 strikeouts. Against Stanhope Elmore, seventh grader Sara Payton Schmidt’s two-run single drove in all the runs in the game. Against Alabama Christian, Jersee Carter was 3 for 3. Against Wetumpka, Madison Hanson was 3 for 3 and seventh grader Chloe Hollon drove in two runs with a single. Hollon also had a three-run home run against Hayden.

PCA (8-7) travels to Phenix City on Monday to play 7A Central High at 5 p.m. (CDT).

BOYS SOCCER

Montgomery Academy 3, Stanhope Elmore 0

MILLBROOK – Lucas Rizzo assisted on a pair of goals and scored another to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 win over the Mustangs on Saturday.

Alex Kohn scored Montgomery Academy’s first two goals with assists from Rizzo. The third goal, still in the first half, was scored by Rizzo with an assist from his brother Thomas.

Montgomery Academy (8-1) improved to 3-0 in area play and will play host to Enterprise on Tuesday before playing Alabama Christian Academy on Thursday.

In the junior varsity game, Montgomery Academy defeated Stanhope Elmore 9-0 with three goals from Win Berry, two each from Owen Johnson and John Allen and one each from Connor Ledger and Luis Rubio.

Benjamin Russell 4, Trinity 3

James Davis scored a goal and assisted on another for the Wildcats in a 4-3 loss to Benjamin Russell.

Jon Cole Portis assisted on the Davis goal before Luke Adams scored with an assist from Davis. Will Owen scored Trinity’s third goal with an assist from Grayden Flowers.

Enterprise 6, Trinity 1

The Wildcats picked up their lone goal from Jon Cole Portis, with an assist from James Davis, in a 6-1 loss to Enterprise.

GIRLS TENNIS

Montgomery Academy 9, Catholic 0

The Eagles won all three doubles points and all six singles points to sweep the Knights in a tennis match at Montgomery Academy on Saturday.

Winning singles matches for Montgomery Academy were Jenna Chandler, Mae Mae Voltz, McRae Freeman, Coleman Speir, Ann Cobern Chapman and Jane Yelverton. The doubles teams of Chandler-Voltz, Freeman-Mary Lee Kelso and Speir-Julia Williams won as well.
