PREP UPDATE: Bell breaks Trinity volleyball record; Park Crossing football wins third game

VOLLEYBALL

Catholic 3, Trinity 1

Catholic won the 4A Area 5 regular season title on Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Trinity at Captain Jack Court, sweeping the season series from the Wildcats.

While the Wildcats dropped the match, senior Isabel Hill broke the school record for career digs in the third set. Hill had 31 digs in the match, giving her 1,568 career digs to break the record previously held by Drue Walker at 1,559.

Hill also had one ace, five assists and passed a 2.18 in serve receive on 33 attempts. 

Catholic won 25-21 and 25-23 before dropping the third set, 23-25, and winning the fourth, 27-25. The rematch of last year’s state finalists.

For the Knights, Zaria Rudolph had nine kills, a pair of blocks and 19 digs, Maria Schwarz had eight kills, three aces, nine digs and 40 assists, Harper Howell had nine kills and six blocks, Mally Barranco had 53 digs and Joi McGuire had eight kills and 18 digs.

The win gave Catholic the top seed and the host site for the upcoming area tournament. 

Trinity (16-9) plays host to Auburn and Montgomery Academy in a tri-match on Monday. Catholic (21-6) will travel to Pike Road on Thursday, then play host to Auburn and Prattville Christian in a tri-match on Tuesday.

 

Prattville Christian 3, Beulah 0

PRATTVILLE -- The Panthers swept through Beulah on Tuesday, winning 25-12, 25-8 and 25-7 to improve to 5-0 in area play. PCA (20-9) closes out area play at Alabama Christian on Thursday. 

For the Panthers, Natalee Wheeler had four aces and four digs, Dakotah Zimbelman had two kills, Paysley Bayer had three kills, a block and six digs, Aiden Williams had two digs, Emma Cate Carter had seven kills, three aces, a block and two digs, Jenna McClendon had three kills and a dig, Baileigh Seale had three kills, five assists, two aces and a pair of digs, Leah Cate Wilson had three kills and two aces, Kyra Sims had three kills, Maren Diefenderfer had a kill, Brylee Byrd had a kill, two aces and a pair of digs and Baylee Rogers had 15 assists and five aces.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Lakeside girls finish runner-up at Southern Prep

CAMP HILL -- The Lakeside girls set eight personal records in a cross country race hosted by Southern Prep on Tuesday, finishing runner-up in the event. 

Chloe Helms won the 5K event with a time of 21:43, while Addy Helms placed eighth with a time of 26:40 and Anna Peak was 12th with a time of 28:26. Six of the seven other Chiefs set personal-best times in the event, including Leigh Ann Judah, who finished 20th; Maggie Moore, who came in 24th; Lindsey Beavers, who placed 26th; Brooklyn Herring, who finished 30th; Bailyn Brooks, who placed 38th; and Lorelai Clark, who was 45th. Katelyn Helms placed 43rd in the event. 

The Lakeside boys were led at the meet by Evan Sellers, who finished 31st with a time of 23:50, and Gray Mitchell, who was 43rd with a time of 25:19. Aiden Sapp, who finished 57th, also had a personal-best time in the event.

FOOTBALL

Park Crossing 6, Selma 0

Terrion Evans scored the game’s lone touchdown with 3:18 left in the third quarter to give Park Crossing its third win of the season in a non-region game at Cramton Bowl on Thursday.

The Park Crossing defense held Selma to negative yards in total offense with both teams struggling to put points on the board in the game.

The two teams combined for 16 pass attempts and completed just four. The Saints had five snaps sail over the quarterback Samarion Woods’ head during the game, resulting in minus-92 yards.

Park Crossing improved to 3-3 and returns to Class 6A, Region 2 action next Friday against Pike Road at Cramton Bowl. Selma dropped to 0-6 and plays at Marbury next week.
