PREP VOLLEYBALL: Trinity, PCA earn sweeps for area titles

Trinity 3, Holtville 0

Trinity wrapped up the 5A Area 6 regular season title by sweeping the Bulldogs 3-0 at Captain Jack Court on Tuesday night.

Trinity finished 7-1 in area play after winning its eighth consecutive match on Tuesday. St. James is second at 5-2, followed by Catholic at 4-2, Marbury at 1-6 and Holtville at 0-6. The Wildcats will host the area tournament in two weeks and face the Marbury-Holtville winner in a semifinal match, with the winner qualifying for the South Super Regional on Oct. 24.

Trinity defeated the Bulldogs 25-5, 25-12 and 25-13. For the Wildcats, Holland Williams had 14 kills, 

Anna Moore had 12 kills and six digs and Ellie Causey had 42 assists, four kills, four digs and two aces.

Trinity (22-7) returns to action this weekend in a tournament at Auburn.

 

Prattville Christian 3, Tallassee 0

PRATTVILLE -- The Panthers swept Tallassee 25-6, 25-9 and 25-14 on Tuesday in the PCA gym to clinch the 4A Area 5 regular season title.

PCA improved to 5-0 in area play and still has to play Booker T. Washington on Wednesday in a match that was postponed from last week, but each of PCA’s three area opponents have at least two losses, making the Panthers the top seed and the host school for the area tournament in two weeks.   

Before Tuesday’s game, PCA honored two of its players for reaching career milestones. Baylee Rogers was honored for her 3,000th career assist and Emma Cate Carter was recognized for her 1,000th varsity kill.

For the Panthers, Rogers had 15 assists, an ace and two digs, Carter had four kills and three digs, Morgan Fowler had 12 assists, a kill and two digs, Maren Diefenderfer had nine kills, two blocks and a pair of aces and Leah Cate Wilson had six kills and a block.

Olivia Rossi and Marion Lewis each added three kills, Kenadie Minor had four kills and a dig, Paysley Bayer had a kill and a dig, Aiden Williams had six digs and an assist, Natalee Wheeler had five digs, a kill and an assist, Anniston Robison had six digs and Brylee Byrd had three digs and an assist.

PCA (28-12) will host BTW on Wednesday, then travel to Eclectic to play Elmore County on Thursday.
