PRESS PICKS: Hurricane Ian gives pause to the season

One of the biggest weekends in college football has a nemesis.

Maybe it lacks taste to bring this up in a trying time for those in Florida, but a hurricane might have an affect on the games (and already have) in Sunshine State and in other parts of the southeast.

Yes, those in harm’s way should take precautions and several have as Ian moves through the state of Florida and possibly up through Georgia. But once the storm clears out, we will see what this possible catastrophe leaves us to deal with.

It’s a wonder that so many teams (as of Wednesday) were taking a wait-and-see attitude about this storm.  But prognosticators have been wrong before.

Even the biggest series in baseball might be affected this weekend when the Mets visit the Braves.  But at the moment, who cares?

But we must be content considering what folks in Florida may have to deal with once all is done. The early reports had incredible water surges. One stated that the water was literally sucked out of Tampa Bay on Wednesday.

A dangerous storm leaving a horrible aftermath will certainly temper any ideas of what’s happening in the sports world.

We wait and see and are hopeful that all are safe when it’s said and done. And, hopefully, the world of football can return quickly.
