SEC announces 2021 football schedules
COMBINED REPORTS
The Southeastern Conference announced on Wednesday the football schedules for all 14 SEC schools for the 2021 season.
As in previous seasons, the schedule is eight conference games and four non-conferrence, which comes on the heels of a 10-game all-conference schedule in 2020.
Alabama and Auburn will face off in the final game of the regular season on Nov. 27 and both will have SEC foes the week before, which was set up originally for the 2020 season before COVID-19 reshuffled the season.
Alabama will face Arkansas while Auburn will travel to South Carolina prior to hosting the Crimson Tide.
Alabama `opens the season in Atlanta against Miami, Fla. while Auburn will face Akron and will play all four of its non-conference opponents prior to its first SEC game which will take place on Oct. 2 at LSU.
Alabama will face Florida in the Tide’s first conference game on Sept. 18 in a battle of SEC defending division champions.
All 14 teams will have one bye week with Auburn’s set take off the weekend of Oct. 23 while Alabama will be off the next week, Oct. 30, prior to facing LSU.
Auburn’s annual date with Georgia has been set for Oct. 9.
The SEC played 69 of 71 scheduled games in a revamped 10-game, conference-only schedule employed in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 virus.
“We are proud to have completed the 2020 football season under unique circumstances and will now focus on playing the 2021 football season as scheduled,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “Circumstances around the COVID-19 virus will continue to guide our decision-making should any adjustments need to be made.”
With 13 playing weekends, the 2021 schedule includes one open date for each team and conference contests scheduled each week beginning in Week Two.
Each SEC team will play eight conference football games to include six games against division opponents and two games against non-division opponents. One of the non-division opponents will be a permanent annual opponent and the other non-division opponent will rotate each year.
The season begins the weekend of September 4 with 14 games, including two neutral site games on opening weekend.
The 2021 season will culminate with the SEC Championship Game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, Dec. 4. It will be the 30th edition of the game and the 28th in the city of Atlanta.
