SPRING ROUNDUP: Macon East baseball falls; ACA splits in softball

Lee-Scott Academy 4, Macon East Academy 3
TROY -- The Knights got a home run from Stone Yarnell but couldn’t string together enough hits to overtake Lee-Scott in a 4-3 loss in the opening round of the Pike Liberal Arts tournament on Friday morning.
Colby Cox took the loss for Macon East, allowing four runs on six hits over five innings while striking out four.
Tate McKelvey picked up the win for Lee-Scott as the Knights got hits from Yarnell, Cox, Khamani Driver, Sanders Manning, Gunner Justice, Luke Noffsinger and Jabe Boroff.
Macon East returns to action on Saturday morning in the tournament.
SOFTBALL
Central-Phenix City 11, Alabama Christian 4
AUBURN -- Hayley Cassidy had a pair of hits and drove in a run to lead the ACA offense, but the Eagles dropped the opening-round game with the 7A Red Devils in a tournament at Auburn.
Alabama Christian 3, Lawrence County 0
AUBURN -- Rose Costanza threw a five-hit shutout while striking out five in the Eagles’ 5-0 win over Lawrence County in the second round of a tournament at Auburn.
Costanza also had a pair of hits at the plate and drove in a pair of runs.
ACA (2-5) returns to action on Saturday in the tournament, facing Dale County and Beauregard.
BOYS TENNIS
Mountain Brook 6, Montgomery Academy 3
The battle between 7A power Mountain Brook and defending 4A-5A state champion Montgomery Academy would be decided in the final three matches between the two teams on Friday.
Each of the final three matches were decided in a third-set tiebreaker and the Spartans won all three as Hamilton Chapman, John Alford and Jackson Brown were all defeated in tight singles matches.
Whit Davis won the lone singles match for the Eagles, while the doubles teams of Chapman-Davis and Alford-Brown won for the Eagles.
