SPRING ROUNDUP: Trinity completes regular season with walkoff win; LAMP boys lead state tennis tourney

Trinity 6, Gordo 5
Ken Whittle’s 780th victory was one of his best.
Trinity rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge 4A power Gordo 6-5 to give the veteran Wildcat baseball skipper a win in his final regular season game at Whittle-Armstrong Field.
Parker Hughes’ RBI single in the bottom of the seventh capped the rally, driving in the game-winning run to defeat the Green Wave.
Wildcats seniors Parker Patterson, William Roberson, Carter Clark, Coleman Ellis, Walton Cherry, Preston Berry and Hughes were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
Patterson got the start and pitched the first three innings, allowing three hits and no runs while striking out three and walking one. Coleman Stanley pitched the fourth and fifth innings of no-hit relief, allowing one run while striking out three and walking one. Berry pitched the final two innings and picked up the win, allowing five hits and four runs while walking two.
Roberson went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Grayson Ashe went 2 for 4 with a run scored and three RBIs and Ellis went 2 for 3.
Trinity (18-7-1) will carry an 11-game winning streak into the first round of the 3A state playoffs and will host Southside-Selma in a best-of-three series with a Thursday doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
Macon East Academy 11, Fort Dale Academy 1
CECIL -- Kirkland Pugh pitched a one-hitter in 3.1 innings, allowing one run while striking out six and walking one, to help the Knights to an 11-1 win over Fort Dale on Monday.
Colby Cox and Landon Mobley each had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Macon East offense. Luke Noffsinger and Shelton Lee drove in a pair of runs as well.
Macon East Academy (22-8) plays host to Ezekial Academy on Tuesday at 4 p.m., before taking a week off. The Knights drew a first-round bye in the AISA AA playoffs and will return to action on April 29-30 against the Wilcox-Southern winner.
SOFTBALL
Trinity 10, Reeltown 6
REELTOWN -- Trinity’s 13-hit attack spoiled the Rebels’ Senior Night as the Wildcats pulled off a 10-6 victory on Monday.
Mary Kathryn Adcock went 4 for 4, scoring twice and driving in a run and Linda Hill went 3 for 3 scoring once and driving in 3 Wildcats to lead the Trinity offense.
Henlee Gunter was 1 for 2 with a pair of walks, scored three times and stole five bases, while Hanna Grace Gunter was 2 for 2, scoring once and driving in a run.
Hill pitched a complete game in the circle, striking out seven batters and walking none. The senior faced 34 batters, throwing 96 pitches with over 76 percent of those pitches being a strike.
Trinity returns home to play Robert E Lee on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
PCA 6, Brantley 3
BRANTLEY -- Riley Sweeney slugged a pair of three-run home runs to give the Panthers a 6-3 win over the Bulldogs at Alex Wilcox Field on Monday.
Sweeney had a three-run homer in the third inning and another in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie. Arielle Williams and Jersee Carter each had a hit for the Panthers.
Landyn McAnnally was the winning pitcher, holding Brantley to just three hits while striking out 10 in seven innings of work.
PCA (22-6) will play host to Thorsby on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
GIRLS SOCCER
Montgomery Academy 10, LAMP 0
The Eagles completed an unbeaten regular season with a 10-0 win over LAMP on Monday.
Hayes Jenkins scored three goals, while Kaitlin Phenix and Leighton Robertson each added two. Other goals were scored by Lily Hines, Victoria Dunning and Alex Budny.
Montgomery Academy (16-0-1) drew a first-round bye in the 4A-5A state playoffs and will face the Faith Academy-UMS-Wright winner in the second round on Tuesday in Mobile.
Prattville Christian 4, Elmore County 0
PRATTVILLE -- Kathleen Cary led the Lady Panthers with two goals and an assist in a shutout of Elmore County at Panther Stadium on Monday night.
Avery Rogers added a goal and two assists and Chloe Steakley scored a goal.
CoCo Thomas recorded the shutout in goal.
PCA (6-3-2) will play host to Stanhope Elmore on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
BOYS SOCCER
Prattville Christian 4, Elmore County 0
PRATTVILLE -- Jake Davis scored a pair of goals to help the Panthers to a shutout of Elmore County at Panther Stadium on Monday night.
Trey Barkley added a goal and two assists and Matthew Lisle scored a goal and had an assist.
Grant Scott recorded the shutout in goal.
PCA (8-5) will play host to Autaugaville on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
In the junior varsity game, Kyle Zerkel scored a pair of goals to help the Panthers close out the season with a 3-0 win over Elmore County. Liam Taylor had a pair of assists and Adam Ouellet scored a goal, while Dawson Thweatt recorded the shutout in goal for PCA (4-1-2).

LAMP, Madison Academy lead 4A-5A state tournament after first day
MOBILE -- All of LAMP’s players advanced in the first day of the state tennis tournament, giving the Golden Tigers 40 points and leaving them in a tie with Madison Academy in first place heading into the second and final day of the 4A-5A tournament at the Mobile Tennis Center.
At. No. 1 singles, LAMP’s Edward Lee beat Fayette County’s Pearce Bolling 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals before losing to Madison Academy’s Parker Jacques.
At No. 2 singles, LAMP’s Juno Jeon beat Cherokee County’s Dylan Mackay 6-0, 6-0 and John Carroll’s Josh Wittman 6-1, 6-1 to reach the semifinals.
At No. 3 singles, LAMP’s Ian Kim beat Wilson’s Riley Wilkes 6-2, 6-0 and Guntersville’s Elliot Storey 6-0, 6-0 to reach the semifinals.
At No. 4 singles, LAMP’s Sunho Kim beat St. Michael’s Brandon Cherry 6-1, 6-0 and Madison Academy’s Matt Perkins 6-0, 6-2 to reach the semifinals.
At No. 5 singles, LAMP’s Cole Gillet beat Sylacauga’s Justin Douglas before losing to Madison Academy’s Grady Byrne in the second round.
At No. 6, LAMP’s Richard Chen beat St. Michael’s Sullivan Stankoski 6-1, 6-1 and Madison Academy’s Joe Allen 6-4, 6-4 to reach the semifinals. St. James’ Grayson Eaves beat Wilson’s Chandler Peters 2-6, 6-1, 11-9 in the first round before losing to Altamont’s Sid Doppalaphudi for the Trojans’ only win in singles play.
At No. 1 doubles, LAMP’s Lee-Jeon beat Mae Jemison’s Kyle Simpson-William David Billions 6-4, 6-1 and Satsuma’s Gabriel Perkins-Joy Patel 6-2, 6-1 to reach the semifinals.
At No. 2 doubles, Mobile witnessed an all-Montgomery second round after St. James’ Josh Harvey and Danny Truck beat the Satsuma duo 6-0, 6-1 and LAMP’s Ian Kim and Sunho Kim beat the Mae Jemison duo 6-0, 6-0. In the second round, Kim-Kim defeated Harvey-Truck 6-2, 6-3 to reach the semis.
At No. 3 doubles, LAMP’s Andy Back-Cole Gillet beat St. Michael’s Connor Cherry-Joseph McAleer 6-0, 6-0 and Satsuma’s Cody Robson-Brodie George 6-0, 6-0 to reach the semifinals.
Catholic duo advance to finals of 1A-3A state tournament
MOBILE -- The Knights’ No. 1 doubles team of Sebastian Sayegh and Cooper Davis won a pair of matches on Monday to advance to the finals of the 1A-3A state tournament at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Sayegh-Davis defeated Shoals Christian’s J.D. Bachofer and Samuel Camp 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and Westminster-Oak Mountain’s Grant Eller and Tim Clarke 6-3, 6-1 to reach Tuesday’s finals against Houston Academy’s Mitchel Piedra and Andrew Ayodeji.
At No. 1 singles, Sayegh beat Whitesburg Christian’s Ryen Walker 6-4, 6-7, 10-8 before losing to Piedra in the semifinals.
At No. 2 singles, Davis beat Providence Christian’s Jackson Sneed 6-1, 6-2 and Houston Academy’s Ayodeji 4-6, 6-2, 12-10 to reach the championship.
At No. 5 singles, Catholic’s Peter Walski beat Whitesburg Christian’s David Holaway 6-4, 6-3 before losing to Houston Academy’s Willis McRae in the semifinals.
Walski teamed with Antino Lemuz at No. 3 doubles to beat Holaway and Kevin Granger 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) before losing to Houston Academy’s McRae and Thomas Buntin in the semifinals.
GIRLS TENNIS
St. James in sixth place in 4A-5A state tournament after first day
MOBILE – The top six teams remain in the hunt for a state championship with Altamont and St. John Paul II tied atop the leaderboard with 40 points after the first day of competition.
LAMP is in seventh place with 16 points, but none of the Golden Tigers’ doubles teams earned a win at the Mobile Tennis Center.
At No. 1 singles, St. James’ Reilly Taylor beat St. Michael’s Elle Chappelle and Jacksonville’s Andreea Trifas before losing to Sardis’ Caroline Johnson in the semifinals.
Pike Road’s Sydney Cohen beat Buckley Nettles of Demopolis in the second round before losing to American Christian’s Ava Thomason in the quarterfinals.
At No. 2 singles, LAMP’s Renna Chen beat Leeds’ Scout Thomas 6-1, 6-1 and Randolph’s Lydia Slocum 6-2, 6-2 to reach today’s semifinals.
At No. 3 singles, LAMP’s Kangyon Park defeated Leeds’ Darcy Phillips 6-1, 6-1 before losing in the quarterfinals to St. John Paul’s Mauren Weathers. St. James’ Dylan Oliver beat American Christian’s Holly Brantley 6-4, 6-3 and Satsuma’s Marlee Montavalo 6-3, 7-6 and will face Weathers today in the semifinals.
At No. 4 singles, St. James’ Grace Yu beat Russellville’s Natalie Busler 6-4, 7-5 before losing in the quarterfinals to St. John Paul’s Trish Bukenya. LAMP’s Lily Tears beat Sylacauga’s Ashlyn Wykoff 6-3, 6-1 and American Christian’s Holley Brantley 4-6, 7-6, 10-5 to reach the semifinals today against Bukenya.
At No. 5 and No. 6, LAMP and St. James players are on a collision course with a semifinal win today.
At No. 5, Isabella Hernandez of St. James beat Satsuma’s Hannah Deakins 6-2, 6-1 and Wilson’s Brieann Lard 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semifinals. In the other bracket, LAMP’s Jennifer Kim reached the semifinals after beating St. Michael’s Corinne Blanchard 6-0, 6-0 and Sylacauga’s Brooke Gordon 6-0, 6-2.
At. No. 6, Bailey Anderson of St. James beat Sylacauga’s Janie Poe 6-4, 6-4 and Russellville’s Addison Strickland 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semifinals. In the other bracket, LAMP’s Selina Che reached the semifinals after beating Satsuma’s Ava Davis 6-2, 6-0 and Randolph’s Olivia Bailey 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 2 doubles, Oliver-Yu beat St. Michael’s Rachel Dye and Caroline Rivers 6-3, 6-0 and Sardis’ Mary Royal and Emily Humphries 6-4, 6-4 to reach the semifinals.

MOBILE -- The Knights had a pair of players reach today’s semifinal round after some early success in the 1A-3A state tennis tournament at the Mobile Tennis Center on Monday.
At No. 1 singles, Catholic’s Ella Newell defeated Decatur Heritage’s Lucy Orr 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 before losing in the quarterfinals.
At No. 3 singles, Catholic’s Grayson Howell beat Shoals Christian’s Elizabeth Kelley 6-0, 6-0 to reach today’s semifinals.
At No. 4 singles, Catholic’s Piper Schneider defeated Shoals Christian’s Mamie Bachofer 6-7(3), 6-3, 10-4 to reach today’s semifinals.
At No. 3 doubles, the Catholic duo of Emma Garrison and Maria Schwartz defeated Decatur Heritage’s Sasha Suggs and Miller McLeod 6-3, 6-0 before losing in the semifinals.
