TUESDAY PREPS: Macon East baseball wins area opener; Tallassee softball drops PCA

BASEBALL
Macon East Academy 15, Lakeside School 4
EUFAULA -- Jabe Boroff and Jack Jones each drove in a pair of runs as the Knights won their area opener with a convincing 15-4 win over the Chiefs on Tuesday night.
Matthew Kitchens picked up the win on the mound, allowing two hits while striking out four in two innings of work on Tuesday.
Boroff went 2 for 4 with a single and a double and Jones went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles to lead the offense. Deonte Powell went 2 for 3 with a single and a triple. Luke Noffsinger, Barrett Spaeth and Hunter Timmerman all finished the game with a hit and 2 RBIs as well.
Macon East (9-1, 1-0 in area play) will travel to Phenix City to play in the annual Border Wars Tournament hosted by Glenwood School.
SOFTBALL
Trinity 15, Reeltown 9
The Lady Wildcats scored 15 runs on 18 hits as they beat the Reeltown Rebels 15-9 at Trinity on Tuesday afternoon.
Mya Moskowitz was the winning pitcher, pitching five innings while giving up five hits, one earned run and a walk while striking out eight batters. Lilly Yancey pitched two innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two.
Moskowitz, Emma Rose Meldrum, Madi Milton and Marley Sharpless had three hits each to lead the Wildcat offense. Ava Milton and Mary Kathryn Adcock each added two hits and a walk.
Trinity (4-3) will return to action on Monday at Lagoon Park Softball Complex against Robert E. Lee.
Tallassee 10, Prattville Christian 3
TALLASSEE -- Chloe Hinely had a two-run home run and both Jersee Carter and Saniyah Weaver went 2 for 3 but the Panthers dropped a 10-3 decision to Tallassee at Southside Middle School on Tuesday.
Alexis Walls was the winning pitcher for the Tigers. Belle Haynes had a three-run homer for Tallassee.
Alivia Messick took the loss in the circle for PCA (2-3), which returns home to host Marbury on Thursday at 3 p.m.
In the junior varsity game, the Panthers defeated the Tigers 9-5 as Avery Stokes went 3 for 4, Megan Masters went 2 for 2 and Natalie Rogers went 2 for 3. Brylee Byrd picked up the win in the circle.
Catholic 7, Stanhope Elmore 6
Hannah Smith broke a 6-6 tie with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Knights over 6A Stanhope Elmore on Monday afternoon at Catholic.
C.C. Crawford went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles, Auburn Wilcoxson and Mallory Hildebrand both went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and Smith went 2 for 4 with the help of her fourth home run of the season.
Carissa Gilbert picked up the win in the circle, striking out 10 Mustang batters.
Catholic (7-4) played host to Robert E. Lee on Tuesday and will host Alabama Christian on Thursday.
BOYS SOCCER
Trinity 9, Pike County 0
Josh Hixon and Jackson Champion both recorded hat tricks as the Wildcats cruised to a 9-0 win over the Bulldogs at Ragsdale-Boykin Field on Tuesday.
Kirby Lumpkin, Bo Stewart and Chase Letner each added one goal. Kip Brown, Grayden Flowers, Browder Gulledge and Loudin Wilson all had assists.
The Wildcats improved to 5-2 on the season.
GIRLS SOCCER
Montgomery Academy 4, Dothan 2
The Eagles rallied in the second half to pull away from the Wolves in the second half on Tuesday.
Dothan started the game strong and took the lead after 15 minutes. Montgomery Academy worked hard to get back in the game which resulted in two glimpses of greatness with goals coming from Kaitlin Phenix and Virginia Meacham. Dothan would respond with a well worked counter attacking goal to tie the game 2-2 at halftime.
Montgomery Academy came out in the second half with a lot of pressure, controlling the ball in Dothan’s defensive half of the field. Unable to regain the momentum, frustration began to mount for the Wolves. With continuous pressure, MA forced two key errors against Dothan resulting in two penalty kicks, both of which were put away with ease from MA’s Sophia Cho.
Coaches rewarded Hayes Jenkins as the player of the game.
BOYS TENNIS
Montgomery Academy 9, Altamont 0
BIRMINGHAM -- Montgomery Academy swept both singles and doubles play against Altamont on Tuesday to improve to 8-1 this season.
Winning singles matches were Whit Davis, Guy Hughes, Gaines Freeman, Carlyle Chandler, Picasso Avezzano and William Dillon. The doubles teams of Hughes-Charlie Hill, John Alford-Jackson Brown and Freeman-Ron Sharma swept their matches as well.
Montgomery Academy plays host to Auburn High on Thursday.
GIRLS TENNIS
Montgomery Academy 9, St. James 0
Playing without No. 1 singles player Gabby Barrera, the Eagles moved everyone up and swept the Trojans in both singles and doubles on Tuesday.
Barrera sat out the match due to illness, placing Jenna Chandler at No. 1 and she responded with an 8-0 win over Reilly Taylor. Other singles winners included Mae Mae Voltz at No. 2, an 8-0 winner over Grace Yu; Kareena Singh at No. 3, an 8-1 winner over Stella Sponseller; Clara Ryan at No. 4, an 8-2 winner over Dylan Oliver; MaryLee Kelso at No. 6, an 8-2 winner over Karly Bailey; and Marianna Lassner at No. 6, an 8-1 winner over Kate Rees.
In doubles, Chandler-Voltz defeated Taylor-Yu 8-2 at No. 1; Cate Peeples and Kelso beat Sponseller-Bailey 8-2 at No. 2; and Ryan and Lola Campbell defeated Oliver and Addison Seale 8-5 at No. 3
Montgomery Academy improved to 8-1 with the win.
GIRLS GOLF
Trinity finishes fifth in Talons Up Tournament
DOTHAN -- The Wildcats got the season off to a good start on Monday, placing fifth in the Talons Up Tournament hosted by Providence Christian at the RTJ golf course.
Class 5A Pike Road won the tournament, followed by 7A Spain Park, 7A Auburn and 7A Hoover. The 15-team tournament consisted of teams from 1A-7A.
It was the second tournament title this season for Pike Road, which also won the Panther Invitational in Phenix City last weekend.
Trinity’s Virginia Anne Holmes was runner up medalist with an even par 72.
Pike Road’s Yvette Gordon (74) and Lauryn Leonard (75) made the all-tournament team as well.
