TUESDAY PREPS: St .James softball topples Elmore County; Lowndes baseball slips past Southern

St. James 12, Elmore County 1
ECLECTIC -- The Trojans broke open a tight game with seven runs in the fourth and added four more in the seventh to dispose of the Panthers on Tuesday.
Emily Needham pitched a two hitter over five innings, striking out seven. Peyton Middleton pitched the final two innings, surrendering one run on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.
Tat Shuford hit her second home run in as many days, going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Kaitlin Hudson went 2 for 3, scored a run and drove in a run, Lily Stanford went 2 for 3, scored three times and drove in a pair of runs and Ava Stanford went 1 for 5 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Elmore County got hits from Addison Hicks, Lalah Culpepper and Kayden Edwards.
St. James (22-1) will put its six-game winning streak on the line against LAMP on Thursday, then travel to Montgomery Academy on Monday for a 3A Area 6 contest.
PCA 16, Stanhope Elmore 0 (4)
MILLBROOK -- Alivia Messick threw three innings, striking out 7 and surrendering just one hit in a 16-0 win over the Class 6A Mustangs limited to four innings by the mercy rule.
Laura Beth NeSmith pitched the final inning, striking out two and not allowing a hit.
Kandice Crosby continued her torrid hitting streak, going 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs. Chloe Hollon added a solo home run and drove in three runs, Payson Hanson was 2 for 3 with one RBI and both Sara Peyton Schmidt and Erin Williams added two-run singles.
PCA (12-3) will return home to play Catholic on Thursday.
Trinity 20, Montgomery Academy 3 (5)
Madi Milton pitched a three hitter over three innings and the Wildcats snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3A Area 6 victory at Montgomery Academy on Tuesday.
Trinity moved back into second place in Area 6 play at 2-2, trailing St. James (4-0) but ahead of Alabama Christian (1-2) and Montgomery Academy (0-3).
Milton walked one and struck out three, recording her 100th career strikeout in the second inning. Marley Sharpless pitched the final two innings, giving up three hits and striking out one.
At the plate, the Lady Wildcats picked up 16 hits and walked twice with every starter recording a hit. Sharpless went 3 for 4, scored three times and had six RBIs with a pair of home runs. Emory Harris went 3 for 3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in 3 RBIs. Emma Rose Meldrum (2 RBIs), Harper Johnson (1 RBI) and Milton (4 RBIs) each added two hits on the day. Kate Knight, Mae Mae Milton (2 RBIs), Kayleigh Creel and Evie Knight each added a hit.
Trinity (6-6) returns home to face Greenville on Thursday at 4 p.m.
BASEBALL
Lowndes Academy 3, Southern Academy 0
GREENSBORO -- Clayton Hussey won his pitching duel with Hayden Johnston and Pierson Hill helped by driving in a pair of runs in a 3-0 battle at Southern on Tuesday.
Hussey pitched a complete-game one hitter, striking out eight while allowing only a single by Johnston and a walk by Wyatt Martin.
Johnston was nearly as spectacular, allowing singles by Grant Casey, Jase Howard and Hill, who drove in a pair of runs in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. Johnston allowed three runs on three hits while walking one and striking out six in six innings. Brett Cole pitched the seventh, retiring the Rebels in order.
BOYS SOCCER
Montgomery Academy 10, St. James 2
Four players each had a pair of goals as the Eagles cruised to a 10-2 win over the Trojans at Carlisle Field on Tuesday night.
Montgomery Academy used four players to score its first four goals as John Allen Lachney, Ethan Yi, Brewer Welch and Ways Holloway each found the back of the net, with Holloway’s goal coming on an assist from Welch.
Welch added the fifth goal, followed by two goals by Luis Rubio, two more goals by Jacob Stubblefield and a final goal by Yi. Welch finished with four assists, while Stubblefield added a pair.
Catholic 3, LAMP 0
Ben Chitlik scored a pair of goals and JP Costa added another as the Knights returned to action after a two-week layoff with a 3-0 shutout of the Golden Tigers at Catholic on Tuesday.
Joe Reeves had a pair of assists and Henry Skala had one.
Catholic will travel to Tuskegee to play Booker T. Washington on Thursday before returning home to play Wetumpka on Saturday.
Pike Road 5, Prattville Christian 2
PRATTVILLE -- Cade Segars had a pair of goals for the Panthers in a 5-2 loss to the Patriots at Panther Stadium on Tuesday. Brady Roberson had one assist.
PCA (2-8) will travel to play Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday.
GIRLS SOCCER
Trinity 10, BTW Magnet 0
Ella Wiswall scored four goals in a 10-0 win over BTW Magnet, hitting the 100-goal plateau in her career with the fourth goal.
Trinity will recognize Wiswall’s milestone at its next home game on Tuesday against Catholic.
In addition to Wiswall, Rebi McLemore scored a pair of goals and Cameron Stanley, Elsie Hufham, Emmie Portis and Hastings Avant each scored one.
Keeper Price recorded the shutout.
Pike Road 5, Prattville Christian 0
PRATTVILLE -- The Panthers failed to score in a 5-0 shutout at Panther Stadium on Tuesday.
PCA (2-8) will travel to play Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday.
BOYS TENNIS
Montgomery Academy 6, Trinity 3
Montgomery Academy won a hard-fought contest with Trinity on Tuesday by winning four of the six singles matches at McLemore Tennis Center.
Edwin Wu, Ford Morano, Anton Yang and Duncan McInnes won singles matches for the Eagles.
In doubles, Morano teamed with Ron Sharma at No. 2 and Yang and Bo Johnston won at No. 3 for the Eagles.
Trinity’s Samuel Treadwell and James Treadwell won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, then teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles as well.
Montgomery Academy ended its regular season at 11-3 after canceling its match with LAMP on Wednesday. The Eagles will participate in the 7A Section 2 Tournament on Monday at O’Connor Tennis Center.
Montgomery Academy 9, Enterprise 0
Montgomery Academy captured the 7A Section 2 regular season title with a 9-0 win over Enterprise, sweeping the Wildcats in singles and doubles at O’Connor Tennis Center despite stopping the contest on Monday because of rain and resuming on Tuesday.
In singles, John Alford, Jackson Brown, Edwin Wu, Ford Morano, Anton Yang and Ducan McInnes won their matches. In doubles, Alford-Brown, Ron Sharma-Morano and Yang-Bo Johnston won their doubles matches.
After a brief break, Montgomery Academy (10-3) returned to the court on Tuesday to play Trinity.
GIRLS TENNIS
Montgomery Academy 9, Trinity 0
The Eagles swept through singles and doubles competition, beating Trinity 9-0 on Tuesday to close out the regular season.
Winning in singles were Gabby Barrera at No. 1, Mae Mae Voltz at No. 2, Lola Campbell at No. 3, Marianna Lassner at No. 4, Mary Surhea White at No. 5 and Alyssa Kaplan at No. 6.
Winning in doubles were Barrera-Voltz at No. 1, Campbell-White at No. 2 and Lassner-Kaplan at No. 3.
Montgomery Academy (10-5) will participate in the 7A Section 2 Tournament at O’Connor Tennis Center on Monday.
