WEEKEND HOOPS: Catholic boys ease past Trinity

Catholic 56, Trinity 49
Jayden Phifer had 16 points, four rebounds and three steals to lead the Knights to a 56-49 win over the Wildcats in the Catholic gym on Friday night.
Josh Palmer added 14 points, 12 rebounds and three steals and LJ Green had 13 points, eight rebounds, four steals and four assists to help the Knights avenge a 68-65 loss to the Wildcats 10 days earlier in the Jack Schweers Capital City Classic at Trinity.
Trinity (12-4) lost for the first time in five games. The Wildcats host Montgomery Academy next Friday.
Catholic (6-4) travels to Montgomery Academy on Tuesday and to Alabama Christian on Thursday before returning home to play Autaugaville on Friday.
St. James 65, Southside-Gadsden 33
HUNTSVILLE -- St. James closed out play in the Falcon Wildcat Classic with a 32-point rout of 5A Southside on Friday after playing two 6A teams in the first two rounds.
KJ Jackson led the Trojans with 19 points, followed by Ethan Beard with 16 points and Tabor Offord with 10.
St. James (5-4) remains on the road next week, playing at 7A Auburn on Monday and 6A Pike Road on Friday.
Trinity 68, Thorsby 17
Mike Jones led a balanced attack with 10 points as the Wildcats coasted past Thorsby at Captain Jack Court on Thursday.
Jones scored all of his points in the second half as 13 of the 14 Wildcats scored. Trinity held the Rebels to one field goal in the first quarter, one in the second and scoreless in the third.
Cal Bennett scored five of his nine points in the first quarter and Cayson Keller had five of his seven in the first quarter as Trinity built a 21-8 lead and cruised to its fourth consecutive win.
Christian Davenport led Thorsby with six points, scoring all of his points in the first quarter at the free-throw line. John Hayes Naylor had the Rebels’ lone field goal in the first quarter and a 3-pointer by Aiden Niamon was Thorsby’s only field goal in the second quarter.
Muscle Shoals 48, St. James 37
HUNTSVILLE -- Ethan Beard scored 13 points and KJ Jackson added 12 as the 3A Trojans dropped a 48-37 decision to the 6A Trojans in the Falcon Wildcat Classic on Thursday.
St. James (4-4) will continue play in the tournament on Friday.
Jaxton Vandiver had 13 points to lead Muscle Shoals (7-3).
GIRLS
St. James 49, Madison Academy 35
HUNTSVILLE -- Ava Card had 16 points to lead the Trojans to a 14-point win over 5A Madison Academy in the final day of the Falcon Wildcat Classic on Friday.
Natalie Barton added eight points for St. James, followed by KK Hall with five and Molli Pickett with four.
St. James (13-5) will travel to Pike Road on Friday.
Trinity 48, Catholic 34
Emma Kate Smith had 14 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds to lead the Wildcats to a 48-34 win over the Knights on Friday in the Catholic gym.
Maddie Smith added 13 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists in the win, followed by Francie Morris with 13 points and six rebounds.
Catholic (13-6) travels to Montgomery Academy on Tuesday and Alabama Christian on Thursday before returning home to play Autaugaville on Friday.
Trinity (15-2) will play host to Montgomery Academy on Friday.
Trinity 58, Jasper 37
HUNTSVILLE -- Emma Kate Smith had 20 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead the Wildcats to a surprising 21-point win over 5A Jasper at Hazel Green on Thursday.
Jayden Mitchell added 15 points and four rebounds for the Wildcats, followed by Mya Moskowitz with 10 points and five rebounds and Maddie Smith with 10 points, five assists and five steals against the second-ranked Vikings (17-2), who lost for the first time since a Nov. 18 loss to Hazel Green.
Good Hope 62, St. James 49
HUNTSVILLE -- KK Hall hit six 3-pointers and finished with 24 points and five rebounds as the Trojans fell to Good Hope 62-49 in the Falcon Wildcat Classic on Thursday.
Ava Card added 15 points and six rebounds for St. James, followed by Katie Irving with four points, Natalie Barton with three points, six rebounds and six assists and KK Corley with three points. Katie Brightwell dished out seven assists.
Terrell Academy 43, Lakeside School 33
EUFAULA -- Terrell Academy caught fire in the second half, pulling away from an 18-18 halftime tie with the Chiefs for a 10-point victory on the final day of the Shoemaker-Ward Tournament on Friday.
Chloe Helms led Lakeside with 16 points, followed by Sophie Seaborn with eight points and Eliza Eriksen with seven.
Helms and Eriksen were named to the all-tournament team.
Lakeside School 44, Evangel Christian 14
EUFAULA -- Eliza Eriksen scored 14 points to lead the Chiefs past Evangel Christian 44-14 on the second day of the Shoemaker-Ward Tournament on Thursday at Lakeside.
Chloe Helms added 12 points for Lakeside, followed by Jayden Green with seven points and Addysen Eriksen with eight rebounds and six points.
