AISA ROUNDUP: Abbeville Christian tops Macon East; Lowndes wins

Abbeville Christian 42, Macon East Academy 35
ABBEVILLE – Carlos Carter rushed for 239 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries but it wasn’t enough as the Generals won a shootout with Macon East in a battle of playoff teams from different classifications on Friday night.
Kirkland Pugh added 39 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries for the Knights (7-3), who finished as the second seed in AA Region 1. The senior also completed 5 of 12 passes for 92 yards.
Garrett Harden had eight tackles and a pair of sacks to lead the Macon East defense, followed by Stone Yarnell with seven and Parker Strickland with five.
Macon East will play host to Wilcox Academy in the first round of the AA playoffs next week, while Abbeville Christian (8-2) will play host to South Choctaw Academy in the first round of the A playoffs on Friday.
Chambers Academy 42, Crenshaw Christian 22
LUVERNE – Demetric Toney threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another but Chambers won the battle of region winners on Friday night.
Toney completed 11 of 24 passes for 205 yards, including touchdown passes to Austin Archie and Jack Dillon Hewitt. Archie had 69 yards and a touchdown on three receptions, while Hewitt had 40 yards and a touchdown on two catches. Archie also ran in a two-point conversion and had five tackles and an interception on defense.
Toney also rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Christian Holloway finished as the team’s leading rusher with 88 yards on 14 carries and the leading tackler with 12 tackles and an interception.
Reid Compton added 10 tackles for Crenshaw Christian (7-3), which will play host to Pickens Academy in the opening round of the A state playoffs next Friday.
Chambers (9-1) will play host to Autauga Academy in the first round of the AA playoffs next Friday.
Lowndes Academy 33, Fort Dale Academy 6
GREENVILLE – The Rebels pitched their third consecutive shutout on defense and scored 30 or more points for the fourth consecutive time in defeating Fort Dale on Friday night.
Fort Dale’s only touchdown came on a fumble return against the Rebels’ offense. The Lowndes defense was coming off of consecutive shutouts of Coosa Valley and Cornerstone Christian and won its fourth consecutive game in the process.
Colby Briggs passed for 190 yards and rushed for 90 more, scoring a pair of touchdowns. Jackson Self had five receptions for 80 yards and also scored a rushing touchdown in the game. Jackson Floyd had 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns on five receptions.
Lowndes (5-6) travels to Evergreen to play Sparta Academy in the first round of the A state playoffs next Friday.
Fort Dale ends the season at 1-9.
Southern Academy 42, Banks Academy 20
BIRMINGHAM – Southern pulled away late to snap a three-game losing streak and defeat Banks Academy in a game that was rescheduled from Sept. 25.
Josh Bonner cracked the century mark in rushing for the Jets and scored a pair of touchdowns. Banks ended its first year as a football program with a 2-8 record, while Southern finished the year at 3-6.
Patrician Academy 48, Pickens Academy 0
BUTLER – The Saints won their seventh consecutive game in convincing fashion, shutting out the Pirates in a tuneup for the playoffs.
Sammy Lewis scored a pair of touchdowns early and Carson Coody scored twice in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on the shutout.
Lewis scored on runs of 1 and 9 yards and added the two-point conversion after the second score as part of a 28-0 halftime lead. Bryce Mason ran 50 yards for another score and Tyler Lewis threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Landon Smith, then passed for the two-point conversion.
Coby Atkins scored on a 4-yard run for the Saints in the third quarter before Coody scored on runs of 2 and 42 yards to complete the rout.
Patrician (8-1) will play host to Edgewood in the first round of the AA playoffs next Friday, while Pickens (5-5) will travel to Luverne to play Crenshaw Christian in the first round of the A state playoffs.
