PRATTVILLE -- Jersee Carter, a six-year starter for Prattville Christian’s softball team, signed a letter of intent on Tuesday to continue her career at Chipola Junior College.

“Jersee is truly our team’s leader,” PCA coach Randy Stough said. “She sets the tempo for us. We generally play well if she is getting on base and being aggressive on the bases. As the lead-off hitter, she sets the tone for us.”

Carter has been an outfield starter since joining the Lady Panthers softball team in the seventh grade. She has a career fielding percentage of .987, but batted toward the bottom of the lineup her first two years before establishing herself as an accomplished slapper as a freshman in moving to the leadoff position.

She has a .341 career batting average and while most of her hits are singles, her 85 career stolen bases are an indication that she never stays on first base for long.

Carter will be reunited in Marianna, Fla., with pitcher Landon McAnnally, who signed with the Indians last year. Last year, McAnnally and Carter helped the Panthers reach the 3A championship game before losing twice in the finals.

“Carter has a great work ethic in the weight room, on the field and in the classroom,” Stough said. “She leads by example and can back up anything she asks her teammates to do. I’m excited to see her progress this season because we have unfinished business to take care of this year.”
