PREP HOOPS: St. James girls top Brew Tech; Pike Road sweeps Marbury

St. James 59, Brew Tech 52

The Trojans remained undefeated with 22 points from Ava Card and 21 points from KK Hall to defeat Brewbaker Tech 59-52 in the St. James gym on Tuesday night.

Danielle Green added 10 for the Trojans, who snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Rams dating back to 2012. The two former area rivals haven’t met since 2014.

Erin Martin led all scorers with 24 for Brew Tech, and Jillian Boice added 19.

The Trojans led for most of the night -- the largest lead of the game was eight points -- but Brew Tech closed the deficit to 47-45 midway through the fourth quarter but could never overtake the Trojans.

St. James (5-0) will travel to Catholic on Thursday.

Pike Road 56, Marbury 50

MARBURY -- Jazz Johnson scored 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Patriots to a season opening win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

Gracie Branham added 10 points and nine rebounds, Kalia Fencher added 10 points and Kelsey Williams followed with eight for Pike Road (1-0). 

The Patriots take on Stanhope Elmore in the opening round of the Larry Chapman Foundation Tournament on Monday at Montgomery Academy at 10 a.m.

BOYS

Pike Road 48, Marbury 38

MARBURY -- Pike Road rallied late in the fourth quarter to hand Obadiah Threadgill his first win as the Patriots’ coach with a 10-point victory over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

Jayden Cooper led the Patriots with 16 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots, followed by Blayne Battaglia with 15 points, including a pair of 3 pointers and a 5 for 5 performance at the free-throw line.

Alijah Harris added eight points, four rebounds and six steals for the Patriots (1-0), which return to action on Monday in the Larry Chapman Foundation Tournament at Montgomery Academy.

Prattville Christian 86, Elmore County 55

PRATTVILLE -- Carson Roberson led the Panthers with 26 points, connecting on eight 3 pointers, to lead the Panthers to their second lopsided win of the season.

Freshman Cade Segars scored 18 points for PCA, followed by freshman Conner Williams with 15 points and six rebounds, Coleman Hunter with 11 points and eight rebounds and Camron Coleman with 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

PJ Evans added four points and five rebounds and Brady Hughes dished out eight assists for PCA (2-0).
