PREP HOOPS: MA boys top PCA; STJ's Burton gets No. 401 in win over ACA

Montgomery Academy 69, Prattville Christian 50
PRATTVILLE -- Jamal Cooper had 14 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals to lead Montgomery Academy to a 19-point win over the Panthers in a 3A Area 6 matchup in the PCA gym on Friday night.
Judson Lindsey made his return to the MA lineup with 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals after an injury sidelined him for the first 11 games of the season.
DJ Vinson, returning from an injury suffered on Tuesday night, added nine points and nine rebounds. Nigel Walker also had nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
Carson Roberson led the Panthers with 19 points, followed by Cade Segars with 11 points, Camron Coleman with seven points, Conner Williams with four points and Brady Roberson with three points, four rebounds and four assists. PJ Evans added three points and four assists and Coleman Hunter had three points.
Montgomery Academy (5-6) improved to 2-1 in area play with an area game on Tuesday at Catholic. First, the Eagles play at Brew Tech on Saturday.
PCA (7-15) dropped to 0-3 in area play after suffering their sixth consecutive loss and will play at Trinity in an area game on Tuesday.
In junior varsity action, Collier Connell had 15 points for PCA in a 58-36 loss to Montgomery Academy. Cooper Osborne added nine points and six rebounds, Brodie Whirley had six points and six assists and Ryan Kiefer had three points and nine rebounds for PCA (2-9).
Catholic 59, Trinity 56
Matthew Reardon went 5 of 8 from beyond the arc and had a triple-double to lead the Knights to a 59-56 win over Trinity and remain unbeaten in 3A Area 6 play on Friday night.
Reardon finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocked shots as the Knights (7-7) won their third consecutive game, all in area play, to remain atop the area standings at 3-0. LJ Green added 14 points, four steals and four assists and T.J. Dudley had eight points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
Trinity (12-6) dropped to 1-2 in area play, a game behind Montgomery Academy and a game ahead of PCA heading into Tuesday’s home game with PCA.
St. James 65, Alabama Christian 43
The Trojans took a 19-8 lead after the first quarter and maintained an eight to 12-point lead for most of the game before extending the lead late in the fourth quarter in Friday’s matchup.
Ethan Beard led the way with 22 points, many of those on fastbreak layups, and Bradley Thomas added 20, including an unexpected dunk for the final basket of the game.
Saint James (8-3) remains undefeated in the Capital City Conference and will host BTW Magnet on Saturday before traveling to Unior Springs to play Bullock County in an area game on Tuesday.
GIRLS
Prattville Christian 65, Montgomery Academy 37
PRATTVILLE -- Hannah Jones had 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead undefeated Prattville Christian past Montgomery Academy in a 3A Area 6 matchup in the PCA gym on Friday night.
Avery Rogers added 16 points, six assists and five rebounds, followed by CoCo Thomas with 15 points and nine rebounds and Ella Jane Connell with 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Kayden Carr had four rebounds and four steals.
PCA (24-0) improved to 3-0 in area play and will travel to Trinity on Tuesday.
Trinity 75, Catholic 33
Emma Kate Smith had 24 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals to lead Trinity to an easy 3A Area 6 win over Catholic at Captain Jack Court on Friday night.
Trinity (18-3) improved to 2-1 heading into Tuesday’s crucial area game at home against undefeated Prattville Christian. Catholic (10-5), which postponed Tuesday’s game with Montgomery Academy because of COVID issues, dropped to 0-2 in area play and will play host to Montgomery Academy on Tuesday.
Maddie Smith added 18 points for the Wildcats, along with nine assists, five rebounds and five steals. Mya Moskowitz scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds and Mary Alice Sasser had nine points and grabbed five rebounds.
Hannah Smith led Catholic with 10 points.
St. James 70, Alabama Christian 34
After winning her 400th game at Booker T. Washington the night before, Katie Barton celebrated win No. 401 as the Trojan ladies beat the Eagles for the 32nd consecutive time dating back to 2011.
Ava Card scored 28 points, many of those points in the paint, and K.K. Hall added 20 of her own.
The second quarter again proved powerful for Saint James as they have outscored their last three opponents 56-9 in the second quarter.
Jaide Newkirk led Alabama Christian with 10 points.
Saint James (13-5) plays host to BTW Magnet on Saturday before traveling to Bullock County for an area game on Tuesday.
Pike Road 66, Tallassee 21
PIKE ROAD -- Kelsey Williams scored 17 points and Jazz Johnson added 16 as the Patriots rolled past Tallassee in a 5A Area 5 game in the Pike Road gym on Friday night.
Pike Road (14-7) improved to 2-1 in area play, a half-game behind Brew Tech (2-0) and a game ahead of Beauregard (1-1), while Tallassee dropped to 0-3 in area play.
Gracie Branham had nine points and nine rebounds for Pike Road, while K.J. Fencher added eight points. The Patriots play host to Autaugaville on Tuesday.
