PREP UPDATE: Carver, Brew Tech close out FCA Tourney with wins; Davis wins 100th tennis match

G.W. Carver 13, Jeff Davis 5 (5 inn)
King Patterson knocked in three runs with two hits including a double plus he scored a run to lead the Wolvernes to a win over Jeff Davis on the final day of the 30th FCA Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Tournament at Riverwalk Stadium on Monday.
Terrance Soles reached base four times including a triple with an RBI and three walks. He also scored a run. Christian Johnson had two hits with a double, a run scored and a RBI. Jamar Green reached base twice and scored a run.
Patterson also picked up the win on the mound pitching into the fourth inning. He recorded five strikeouts.
Miking Johnson led JD, reaching base twice and he knocked in a run.Leighton Anderson added a triple and a stolen base for the Vols.
Brew Tech 8, Park Crossing 5
Jeremiah Elliott picked up the victory on the mound for the Rams in the win over Park Crossing on the final day of the 30th FCA Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Tournament at Riverwalk Stadium on Monday.
Alabama Christian 5, Trinity 4
Landon Nelson pitched a complete game, allowing just three earned runs on six hits over seven innings as the Eagles held off Trinity 5-4 at the AUM Baseball Complex on Monday afternoon.
Nelson went 1 for 2 at the plate, while David Ortiz-Ramirez went 1 for 2 with an RBI. Ari Bowman, Preston Hicks and Mac Moorer drove in runs as well.
SOFTBALL
Trinity 6, Greenville 5
The Lady Wildcats (7-3) nabbed the lead late in the game to secure a 6-5 victory over the Tigers on Monday.
The game was tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Lilly Yancey tripled to score pinch runner Olivia Caraway after Madi Milton doubled with two outs.
Marley Sharpless took the win for the Wildcats in the circle, pitching seven innings while allowing five runs on nine hits, striking out four and walking zero.
At the plate, the Wildcats were led by Evie Knight, who went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored three times, and Sharpless, who went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Ava Milton also had a hit and an RBI for the Wildcats.
BOYS TENNIS
Davis wins 100th match for MA
MOBILE -- Whit Davis won his 100th match at Montgomery Academy with a win over St. Paul’s Catholic in the annual McGill-Toolen Invitational at the Mobile Tennis Center on Friday.
Davis is only the fourth player in school history to reach the 100-win plateau, joining Brett Ialacci (105 wins in 1996), Bo Torbert (107 wins in 2016) and James Torbert (112 wins in 2019).
Montgomery Academy (9-3) went 2-2 in the prestigious ‘A’ Division of the tournament, featuring some of the best high school tennis teams in the Florida Panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The 2-2 finish was good for sixth place.
Davis recorded his 99th career victory in a win over Ocean Springs (Miss.), his 100th in the win over St. Paul’s, a private school in Covington, La., and his 101st in a hard-fought victory over Jesuit of New Orleans.
He sat out the Eagles’ final game against Catholic of New Orleans as he recovered from dehydration.
Montgomery Academy (8-1) won its seventh consecutive match in the opening round of the McGill-Toolen Invitational on Friday, defeating Ocean Springs 7-2.
Singles winners were Davis, John Alford, Jackson Brown, Ford Morano and Anton Yang, while the doubles teams of Alford-Brown and Ron Sharma-Morano also posted victories.
The Eagles lost 6-3 to St. Paul’s Catholic as Davis and Morano won in singles and Alford-Brown won in doubles. The loss to the Wolves was the first for MA since losing to Mountain Brook on Feb. 6 in the Eagles’ second match of the season.
Montgomery Academy (9-2) bounced back with a hard-fought 5-4 win over Jesuit as No. 6 Yang won the deciding match with the score tied at 4-4. Davis also won at No. 1 and Alford won at No. 3. The Eagles won two doubles matches as well, with the No. 1 team of Davis and Charlie Hill winning, along with the No. 3 team of Sharma-Morano.
In the final match of the tournament, Montgomery Academy ran into New Orleans’ powerhouse Catholic, which had won five of the previous six McGill-Toolen tournaments. In singles, Alford and Yang won but Brown and Morano lost in third set tiebreakers.
The Eagles picked up their third point with a doubles win at No. 2 with Alford and Brown, but the No. 3 team of Sharma and Morano lost in a third set tiebreaker.
Montgomery Academy (9-3) returns home for a Wednesday afternoon battle with 7A defending state champion Vestavia Hills at Lagoon Park Tennis Center.

ENTERPRISE -- Montgomery Academy swept the singles and doubles matches on the road Monday to remain unbeaten in Class 7A Section 2 play.
In singles, No. 1 Whit Davis, No. 2 Charlie Hill, No. 3 John Alford, No. 4 Jackson Brown, No. 5 Anton Yang and No. 6 Edwin Wu won singles matches against the Wildcats, while the duo of No. 1 Davis-Alford, No. 2 Hill-Brown and No. 3 Ron Sharma-Yang swept doubles as well.
The Eagles (10-3) improved to 3-0 in section play and return home to face defending 7A state champion Vestavia Hills on Wednesday afternoon at O’Connor Tennis Center.
BOYS SOCCER
Trinity 10, BTW Magnet 0
Jackson Champion scored four goals and Lawson Roth added two of his own as the Wildcats won their eighth consecutive game with a 10-0 win at BTW Magnet in a 4A Area 2 matchup.
SJ Han, Tate Bixenman, Kirby Lumpkin and Carter Younger all pitched in with a goal.
Goalkeepers Carter Younger and Julian Lee split the shutout.
Trinity (8-4-1) improved to 4-0 in area play and returns home to play Andalusia on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. before traveling to Catholic on Thursday in a pair of area games.
GIRLS SOCCER
St. James 3, Catholic 2
Katie Brightwell scored three goals to lead the Trojans to a 3-2 win over Catholic at Carlisle Field on Monday night.
Brightwell’s goals came on assists from Addison Barber, Mary Grace Hixon and Natalie Barton.
St. James remains home to play Prattville Christian Academy on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Todd Bonnell scored the game’s only goal with an assist from Max Barranco as the Knights defeated the Trojans 1-0 at Carlisle Field on Monday night.
Catholic returns home to face Trinity in a 4A Area 2 matchup on Thursday.
