PIKE ROAD -- Haley Melton and Anna Williams combined to throw a no hitter over four innings as the Patriots opened area play with a 15-0 win over Russell County on Thursday.
Melton pitched two innings of no-hit ball, striking out three and walking none to earn her fourth win of the year. Williams pitched two innings of no-hit ball as well, striking out two and walking none.
The Patriots scored five runs in the first and third innings, four in the second inning and a run in the fourth. Ameria Anderson was 3 for 3 with an inside-the-park home run, a double and two RBIs, Kennedy Thompson had two hits, a double and two RBIs, Ava Milton had two hits and two RBIs and Addison Belyeu had a double and two RBIs. Christina Juarez and Melton each had a double as well.
Kelsey Williams and Anna Williams each had a hit.
Pike Road (8-2) remain home to play Dothan on Tuesday.
Park Crossing 18, Montgomery Academy 12
The Eagles scored 12 runs but couldn’t keep up with the Thunderbirds in an offensive battle on Monday afternoon. PaLucy Nelson went 3 for 3, EG Hines went 3 for 4 and Olivia Smith went 1 for 2 to lead the Montgomery Academy offense.
EG Hines had three strikeouts in the circle for the Eagles.
St. James 3, Brew Tech 1
Emily Needham held the Rams to a run on two hits, striking out 16 and walking one in going the distance for the Trojans in a 3-1 win over Brew Tech on Thursday.
St. James scored a run in the first and two more in the third for a 3-0 lead, but the Trojans managed just four singles. Mary Olive Maddox went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Emily Darby went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI and Sydney Johnston went 0 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI. Kaitlin Hudson went 1 for 3 and scored a run.
St. James (9-0) remains home to host Catholic on Monday afternoon.
Prattville Christian 10, Catholic 0 (6)
PRATTVILLE -- Alivia Messick pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11 batters to help the Panthers to a 10-0 win over the Knights on Thursday.
Peyton Thrash went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, Erin Williams went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Avery Stokes went 2 for 3 with one RBI and Saniyah Weaver went 2 for 3 and had three stolen bases.
PCA (4-3) will travel to Tallassee for a game on Tuesday.
Prattville 2, Enterprise 1
ENTERPRISE -- Kaytie Chandler was dominant in the circle, holding the Wildcats to five hits while striking out 10 in going the distance and giving the Lions a huge 2-1 victory in the 7A Area 3 opener for both teams.
Zarria Bozeman went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. Emma Moore went 1 for 3 and scored a run.
BASEBALL
Marbury 7, Montgomery Academy 6
Montgomery Academy scored five runs in the seventh inning to take the lead, only to fall to the Bulldogs in the bottom of the seventh on an infield hit in the 31st annual FCA Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Tournament at Paterson Field on Thursday night.
Will Hardin got the start for the Eagles and pitched two innings, giving up five hits and four earned runs while striking out three. Luke Jones was huge in relief, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing two runs on two hits while striking out three.
the Eagles scored in the top of the second inning on a Marbury error to tie the game at 1-1 before the Bulldogs pieced together a few timely hits in the bottom of the third for a 5-1 lead.
Trailing 5-1, the Eagles stormed back in the top of the seventh scoring five runs with two outs. Oscar Fiore started the rally with an infield single before Rick McBride’s RBI triple scored Fiore. John Allen Jones followed with a single to drive in McBride and Andrew Hosein followed with a two-run double to tie the game. Luke Jones added an RBI single for a 6-5 lead before the Bulldogs rallied in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
Rick McBride finished 2 for 4 with an RBI, John Allen Jones was 3 for 4 with an RBI and Luke Jones was 2 for 2 with an RBI. Reid McBride, Andrew Hosein and Oscar Fiore each had a hit with Hosein having 2 RBIs.
Montgomery Academy (4-4) returns to action on Monday at LAMP at 3 p.m.
Catholic 9, Brew Tech 3
Catholic scored seven runs in the first inning to defeat Brew Tech in the 31st annual FCA Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Tournament at Paterson Field on Wednesday night.
Parks Hickman got the Knights going with a two-run single before Ethan Levanda added a sacrifice fly. Sal Barranco drove in another run with a fielder’s choice and Gregory Rauch singled in a run before two more runs scored on an error.
Jordan Jackson singled in a run in the third to make it 8-0.
Levanda picked up the win, pitching 4.1 innings of one-hit ball while allowing just two runs, none earned, with six strikeouts and no walks. Dez Simpson pitched in relief.
Caleb McCreary and Hickman led the Knights with two hits each. Cam Richardson went 2 for 4 to lead Brew Tech.
Catholic returns to action in the tournament on Friday against Prattville Christian at Paterson Field at 6 p.m.
Lowndes Academy 7, Hooper Academy 3
Cooper Dansby pitched four innings of one-hit ball and Ashton Yelder homered and drove in three runs to lead the Rebels to the win over Hooper on Thursday.
Dansby added two hits including a double in the win.
Hooper was led by Jeremy Griggs and Lucas Spellman who each had two hits. Cason Dunlap pitched a complete game in a losing effort.
Lee-Scott Academy 6, North Bay Haven Academy 5
PANAMA CITY, Fla. -- Sam Jackson went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and a pair of RBIs to help the Warriors rally past North Bay Haven Academy 6-5 on Monday.
Allen Owen went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Haiden Harper went 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Brayden Butler went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI and Garrett West went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
West started the game, pitching five innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits while walking one and striking out eight. Ethan Harden pitched one-third of an inning, walking two, and Harrison Short picked up the win in relief, pitching the final 1.2 innings and allowing one run on two hits.
Lee-Scott (7-2) will remain in Florida to play Liberty County and Blountstown on Wednesday.
Lee-Scott Academy 2, Holmes County (Fla). 1
PANAMA CITY, Fla. -- Lee-Scott Academy managed to score a pair of runs without the benefit of a hit, taking advantage of five walks to edge Holmes County 2-1 on Monday.
Owen had the Warriors’ only RBI in the game.
Jake Cummings pitched a two-hitter over 4.1 innings, allowing one run while walking three and striking out five. Brayden Butler came on in relief and picked up the win, pitching the final 2.2 innings of one-hit ball, striking out three and walking one.
Lee-Scott (6-2) will face North Bay Haven Academy on Tuesday.
BOYS SOCCER
Catholic 8, Booker T. Washington 0
Joe Reeves had three goals and Stott Blancas added two more as the Knights defeated the Golden Eagles 8-0 in a 4A Area 2 match at Catholic on Thursday night.
Catholic improved to 4-0 in area play.
Tymari Isner added a goal while assisting on two others and Ben Chitlik had a goal while assisting on two others. Stott Blancas, Todd Bonnell and Tony Lemuz had assists as well.
Catholic (9-2) will remain home to play Trinity on Tuesday and BTW Magnet on Wednesday in a pair of area matches.
Montgomery Academy 3, Pike Road 0
PIKE ROAD -- Tanner Bargis scored Montgomery Academy’s first two goals on penalty kicks and Brewer Welch added a third goal with an assist from Jacon Stubblefield as the Eagles won a 6A Area 4 match with the Patriots on Thursday night.
Goalkeeper Hampton Welch had three saves to preserve the shutout.
Montgomery Academy (4-3) improved to 2-0 in area play and will travel to Seale for an area game with Russell County on Tuesday.
Wetumpka 10, Prattville Christian 3
PRATTVILLE -- Cade Segars scored all three of the Panthers’ goals in a 10-3 loss to Wetumpka on Thursday at Panther Stadium.
Brady Roberson assisted on one of the goals.
PCA (0-4) will remain home to face Alabama Christian on Tuesday.
GIRLS SOCCER
Wetumpka 4, Prattville Christian 3
PRATTVILLE -- Avery Rogers scored three goals for the Panthers in a 4-3 loss to Wetumpka on Thursday at Panther Stadium.
Addison Sutton and Mary Virginia Penton each had one assist.
PCA (1-3) will play host to Alabama Christian on Tuesday.
Trinity 10, LAMP 0
Ella Wiswall scored eight goals to lead the unbeaten Wildcats to an easy 10-0 win over LAMP on Tuesday night.
Cameron Stanley and Hastings Avant also scored goals for the Wildcats. Avant had three assists, while Stanley, Wiswall and Rebi McLemore also assisted on goals.
Trinity will take a week off before playing at Catholic next Tuesday.
Montgomery Academy 7, Pike Road 0
PIKE ROAD -- The Eagles scored five goals in the first half on the way to a 7-0 shutout of the Patriots in the 6A Area 4 opener on Thursday.
Madison Yi and Mary Elizabeth Cole each scored two goals and Ella Harding added another for a 5-0 lead. In the second half, Sophia Cho added two more goals for the Eagles.
Montgomery Academy (5-1-1) travels to Seale on Tuesday to play Russell County in another area game.
St. James 1, Pike Road 0
PIKE ROAD -- Natalie Barton scored the game’s only goal with an assist from Hailey Vance as the Trojans won a defensive battle with the Patriots on Monday night.
Defensively, the Trojans’ Hannah and Hope McCain limited the chances by Pike Road throughout the game, with Katie Irving providing the backstop in goal when called upon.
St. James (2-0) will travel to Catholic on Tuesday, then return to host Bayside Academy at Carlisle Field on Friday.
GIRLS TENNIS
Montgomery Academy 9, Opelika 0
Montgomery Academy swept both the singles and doubles matches in a 9-0 win over Class 7A Section 2 opponent Opelika on Wednesday at MA’s McLemore Tennis Center.
The highlight of the match came at No. 2 doubles where the Eagles’ tandem of Lola Campbell and Mary Surhea White fought through a two-hour match before clinching the win in a third-set tiebreaker.
BOYS TENNIS
Montgomery Academy 9, Opelika 0
Montgomery Academy swept the singles and doubles competition with Opelika on Wednesday, defeating the Bulldogs 9-0 in a Class 7A Section 2 match at MA’s McLemore Tennis Center.
John Alford, Jackson Brown, Edwin Wu, Ford Morano, Anton Yang and Duncan McInnes swept the singles matches, while the doubles teams of Alford-Brown, Ron Sharma-Morano and Wu-Yang swept the Bulldogs as well.
Montgomery Academy (4-0) improved to 4-0 in 7A Section 2 play and will remain home to face Catholic on Friday at McLemore Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
BOYS GOLF
Pike Liberal Arts 297, Montgomery Academy 309
Montgomery Academy had six golfers shoot 78 or lower but it wasn’t enough to overtake a hot-shooting Pike Liberal Arts team on Thursday.
The low medalist for Montgomery Academy was Connor Evans with a 75, but Joe Drumwright was two strokes behind at 77, followed by a quartet of Eagles that all shot a 78 -- Thomas Floyd, William Hall, Mac Freeman and Jackson McIntyre. Jackson Williams shot an 85 and John Carson Bullard shot a 95.
